Sell your car for free with Carwow: Meet the all-new MG Cyberster! It’s the first all-electric roadster to hit the UK’s roads, and Mat’s got behind the wheel to find out what this all-electric sports car is like to drive. First off, let’s check out the design. Up front, the Cyberster looks really smart, with a long sloping nose across the bonnet that also has a couple of creases included. There may be a couple of fake vents in the bumper, but there are a couple of real ones as well. The headlight design is pretty smart, although unfortunately, they aren’t matrix LEDs. Along the side, there are more creases to be found, along with a side skirt, while around the back there’s a full-length light bar as well as some arrow-shaped brake lights! They’re certainly different, although we’re not sure if everyone will be a fan. Step inside and the cabin of the Cyberster is brilliant. There’s a wrap-around style for the driver, coupled with three digital screens to choose from - two small ones for the sat nav and driving/charging data, along with a large screen to house the dials. There’s also an additional screen on the centre console to control the cabin’s climate. There’s fake leather across the dash and the seats, along with a mix of Alcantara as well. All in all, the Cyberster is a really nice place to sit! When it comes to performance, there are two editions to choose from. The entry-level is the Trophy, which comes with a single electric motor and the ability to produce 340hp. The GT comes with two motors (and as a result, four-wheel drive) and the ability to put down 510hp! The GT is down on range, though, rolling up with a claimed range of 276 miles compared to the Trophy’s 316 miles of range. Both cars come with a 74kWh battery pack. The MG Cyberster starts at around 55, 000 and increases to 65, 000 for the range-topping edition. So is it worth it! You’ll need to join Mat to see for yourself! Weird how negative the comments are, I'm assuming it's because all the British viewers are salty af because MG is now owned by the Chinese and they're making much more reliable vehicles than the British ever could.
As far as I'm concerned there's nothing in the market that can directly compete with this. I don't know of any other convertible EVs, or 2 door sports cars in this price range that have comparable acceleration, so all in all a unique and well priced vehicle from a manufacturer that has proven to be able to build reliable cars (and for people doubting you can look up the reviews for the mg5 EV, especially the high mileage ones used for taxis)

Being the only EV open top sports car the MG has no competition.
Of course die hard petrolheads will buy an ICE alternative like the Boxster. However, there’s plenty of people (like me) who have lived with EVs for a few years and just don’t want ICE cars anymore. People who don’t want the vibration, noise, pollution and clattering. People who don’t want the high fuel and servicing costs. At last there’s a sports car for them.
Would I buy one. Of course but unfortunately there’s no need or budget for such a car in my life at the moment. My Tesla is a good all rounder.

I don't work on MG's but I've seen 5 come through (all less than 20k miles and 2023 onward) as Preps to be sold and 4 have come back with major faults, one even needed an Engine due to a flimsy clamp blowing off a coolant pipe (lost all it's coolant which pooled on top of the engine) and caused the engine to be ran on no coolant until well, failure no warning to the owner leading up to this it just overheated one day and never came back to life lost compression in 3 of 4 cylinders. The others I don't remember but they seem to be made very poorly.

don't hate it. there are things to nitpick. but overall it's a pretty funky little car.
Will be interesting in 2-3 years when they're going for 25-30k. but. then. still. second hand Porsche boxter. BMW Z4. Mazda MX-5. since this isn't a car you buy for the sake of driving electric. it's in a market where they are second or third cars to drive on the Sunday. Not big mileage cars where electric would make sense and where engine noise makes more sense.

Nice Chinese car. Is it an MG, don't be silly. It's a Chinese car from a Chinese company that made its money using Western tech stolen over the last 20 years due to foolish Western companies allowing the government to force tech transfer in exchange for access that never actually materialized. They then invested those ill gotton gains in failing Western brands (who deserve what they got of course. But is it a MG, absolutely not!

in my eyes this car seems pretty heavy for what it’s trying to be
these can weigh over 4, 000 pounds (way more than a respective miata or brz, but part of that is probably due to the electric components
convertibles such as this are typically lighter, so this probably wouldn’t be ideal for twisty roads due to its weight
the rwd model would probably be the better choice (it’d still be heavy but not as bad as the awd model)

stop using and buying plastic water bottles. you can find reusable metal bottles which does not leach micro plastics and cause cancer. what year is this video its 2024 and every car review video has you trying to stuff a plastic water bottle into a car. get with the program. go watch a video on the plastic islands created in the oceans from these very plastic bottles.

I can see that this car could be a lot fun on nice curvy mountain roads or kicking it up a pass. But you cant always be on a mountain with it, sometimes you just cruising along a gently winding country road. In this case you will most likely miss the sensation of a manual gear shifter and the sound of a nice petrol engine

In a world in which two door sports cars, electric or not, are being replaced by four door sedans, this Chinese car has come to try and save the breed. Will it make it Hmm I think classic MG EV conversions would be worth. Seeing. Only time and depreciation will tell.

U didn’t walk with ur shoes in other high brand cars and u only do this with this MG because it’s China made, what a racist u have make sure China made the computer u have in ur own home also the phone u used and the camera.

The tesla model X used to have ultrasonic sensors for the falcon wing doors and those were made to work through the metal in the door, so I’m confused why thats not how this car has them. Unless it was just to save money obv

I don't know if others will agree but this car feels like a half thought out car that tries to compensate with half thought out gimmicks. makes me worry for how the MG and similar cars will last in the coming years.
reply

Looks ok but there's still something what seems kinda tacky and rushed in a way hmm Regardless it's decent concidering the last thing I heard was that company mg was near bankruptcy, guess they was hiding instead
reply

Takes 40 mins to 80% and only has a max of 7kw AC charging, not quick enough these days. I saw an early LHD one, it's ok but falls short in a lot of key areas, notably the nav view and suspension. I'll pass

Tail lights look like Polestar 2.
Rear design looks like a Porsche long tail.
Front/front lights look like a viper.
Cabin design looks like a Kia EV.
Somehow it just doesn't work.

It might be cheap but I’m not giving fifty grand to a communist regime that oppresses its people and commits genocide. I can’t believe people promote Chinese cars. Have a bit of moral fibre
reply

I was interested until the price. But, once it's lost most of it's value in the first year, it could be fun.
Oh, and the name. Only the Chinese could come up with a name like that.

reply

I'm keeping my focus ST as long as i have access to petrol for it. I can't do with electric cars after work gave me a Etransit with 108mls range. but this looks like a really good car.

The failure of driver equipment ergonomics is quite severe to ignore in a purchase decision. If you don’t spot them in the showroom you’ll definitely spot them on the test drive.

I love how the camera car is an Audi S3. You can get an S3 with an ecu tune that would match the performance of an MG. Or you could get a audi TTS roadster if you NEED a convertible
