Sell your car for free with Carwow: Meet the updated Renault Captur! This small SUV has had a mid-life facelift for 2024, and Mat’s about to find out if it can compete with popular competitors like the Toyota Yaris Cross and Skoda Kamiq. When it comes to the exterior design, there’s no denying the Captur is one of the smartest & stylish small SUVs available. Up front, there’s a pair of smart headlights that flank a blanked-out grille, and there’s a couple of vents to help smooth airflow to the wheels. Along the side the ability to have two-tone side mirrors and a roof help the car stand out, and around the back, the design is kept pretty simple. No fake exhausts or vents - it all looks neat and tidy. Step inside and there are a number of updates over the previous edition. There’s a large infotainment screen in the centre of the dash that runs on Google, and wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay are available. The digital dials have a number of adjustments available, and there are mostly soft-touch materials found throughout. The seats are comfortable, there’s a suitable amount of storage, and the seats in the back can be adjusted as well. When it comes to engine choices, it’s all pretty simple. The entry-level is a 1-litre 3-cylinder turbo that delivers 90hp, while the car we have here is a self-charging hybrid with a 1. 6-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder coupled with an electric motor that can put down 145hp. There may also be a plug-in hybrid released later in the year. The entry-level Captur costs from 21, 095, raising up to 27, 995 for the range-topping edition. So is it the best small SUV you can buy You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! I have exactly this car (Blue Alpine E-tech) and I can agree with everything. I’ve at home a Ford Puma and the quality in the Renault is vastly superior and the value for money absolutely brilliant. If you don’t like the 19 wheel you can option a grip pack with 18 wheels and 4season tyres. The only complain I have is on ambient lighting, 1 led strip for front door and nothing on the low zone like foot light or on door beams, here the Puma is better. But it’s a little gimmick, nothing more, the car is spot on and I’m averaging 5. 2 l/100km with city, countryside and highways, I’ve already done like 6000km.

Why majority of automotive journalists keep complaining about these radio levers in french cars Just do ANY UX research and you will actually find out IT IS BETTER than any controls placed on the steering wheel. Why Because they simply don't move, meaning you can easily find them in the same place every single time, e. g. when you need to go on reverse and want to turn down the radio (to see better . or simply, to focus hear the parking sensors.
Switched from french to japanese car some time ago and actually am missing A LOT radio control as a lever.

I’m it’s the others that say the gear selector is where is should be, I noticed you didn’t talk about the front seats so I’m guessing that Renault are still being extremely tight and not bothered with heated seats on their so-called top spec model again, that’s as bad as the quality of that reverse camera, but it’s the sheer laziness of Renault and the other brands of Stalantis when it comes to moving thing over for GB drivers, Ford do it a bit too as they have the infotainment screen angled more toward the passenger than the driver.

lol. another review of cancer in a bottle. errr. disposable water bottle test. at least today its not a 100, 000 pound car where the buyers would never carry or care about a spot for a disposable water bottle, better yet, the 2 sizes of disposable water bottles. save the oceans and stop the use of these planet killing plastic bottles. its 2024 not 1924. Your local Asda, Tesco, or Waitress has reusable water bottles for sale for a few quid. thats responsible and does not killing the fish for the chippy shops

3: 39 - No one else does that because they're all wrong and Renault is right. I had a '95 Renault Laguna and the audio controls were already like that. They stick with what their loyal customers are already used to.
11: 30 - Obviously they can't be bothered to produce special RHD cars just for a few markets. That's not how car manufacturing works and you should know that by now. It seems like you couldn't find enough annoying features to make five and you're just nitpicking.

We had a 2014-2017 Captur for a short time when we were servicing our Kuga.
It was the biggest piece of shit we've ever driven. Engine was absolutely gutless and sounded like a water pump (or dynamo whatever you call it, interior space was very limited and fuel economy was very poor even compared to our 1. 6 AWD Kuga.
It still has some issues admittedly but at least they made it appealing in terms of design lol

Renault/Alpine not to bad. Good build. Clean Interior and Display. Exterior looks great as well. Performance/Power Unit is good as well. Shortlist overall 9/10. Captur it before someone else does. WordLife if you have a petrol car. Don't jump straight to an EV. Get a PheV first to get the groove before you go full on EV. Going from straight petrol head to EV geek is a culture shock. So get a PheV first.

I got the manual diesel 115 from 2020 and it somehow feels more powerful than the hybrid I tested. Even the 1. 3 petrol would be preferable, but as usual the desirable engines disappear and it becomes about eco consciousness (although I get over 65mpg in the diesel vs the claimed 60mpg of the hybrid)

I'm starting to think that Renault are starting to loose the plot with SUVs.
The current range includes in the UK:
The Captur
The Megane E-Tech
The Arkana
The Scenic E-Tech
The Austral
The Rafael
All of which only increase in size by a really small amount.

Gotta love EU forcing everyone to have security features in their car and automakers finding quick ways for you to shut them off. Has to be one of the less customer focused choice ever, just a waste of everyone time and money on speed limiters and chimes no one asked for.

You'd need to review the Renault Austral, the bigger brother of the Captur. It's got the gear lever behind the steering wheel but together with the radio and wipers controls so it's quite annoying. I'd love to see a review of that Austral since i own one: ) love your work Mat!
reply

I agree with Matt about the music controls, but the gear selector should definetely not be on the steering column - people have trouble selecting the right gear with normal ones, so lets put it in a place, where instead putting the wipers on, people can shift in reverse.
reply

Let's stop pretending a quick release back rest is best. Most people only need to make finite adjustment and having a quick release design not only makes it harder to get the perfect seating position, doing it on the move is more dangerous than just turning a dial.

Complaining about low-res camera on the Renault. What about the resolution of your camera on the back of the X5 at 19: 22
But good review. It seems like Renault have produced a good product that from a design perspective will stand the test of time.

4: 38 Mercedes started the trendMy dad was telling me about the cars he learnt on in the 80s that had this on manuals and im pretty confident that most american suvs and trucks have had this system implemented on automatics for decades lol

I really like that car and while my wife and I both have Mercedes' with the Gear selector he describes, I do like this Renault one. Yesterday, I saw a new Scenic outside a Renault Dealership in France. it was pretty cool. am I old now

I like it. But I've been a reno fan since my first reno 5gt turbo back in the day, after that was stolen got a 2 litre clio sport. Looks good. And cheap for spec also compared to other cars. Loving your vids Matt

The French and Germans are having an interesting automotive design moment. One is making perfecting their car designs and the other is overcompensating awful designs by plastering tech everywhere.
reply

4: 33 Maybe it's for the places that like manual transmissions. And I love that Renault is one of the few brands that offers a 6-speed manual transmission on its non-sports-oriented models.

Damn, those rims are fire. Would buy them for my tesla: )
Anyway, a very nice car for the price, very practical. Would definitely get it over a yaris cross. Renault is on a roll lately.
