Sell your car for free with Carwow: The Volkswagen Passat is now only available as an estate! The question is, has Volkswagen added enough updates to make it a suitable competitor for your next car And should you choose it over other estates currently available Let’s take a closer look Starting with the design, it clearly mirrors the design of other recent VW releases. We’re in the R-Line edition, which means it comes with a few updates over the standard car, such as a more aggressive black bumper and grille. It also comes with Matrix LED lights as standard, as well as an LED light bar stretching across the car. Along the side, there’s black trim around the windows, and at the back, it’s all fairly plain and neat. Nothing too exciting, but then again, nothing too annoying or fake either! Step inside and the Passat is pretty smart. Given it’s the R-Line it comes with some Alcantara trim on the dash and even a set of sporty seats in the front. If anything, it seems like a bit much for an everyday family car like the Passat! There’s a large infotainment screen on the middle of the dash, and there’s also a digital dial screen for the driver. There’s loads of storage to be found throughout, and the centre console is super clean and minimalist as the gear selector has now moved to the steering column. When it comes to engines, the entry-level is a 1. 5-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 150hp. There are also two plug-in hybrids available. Both use the same 1. 5-litre turbo, but whereas one produces 204hp, the range-topper can deliver 272hp. The new Passat range starts from 38, 500, while the range-topping R-Line trim starts from around 43, 000. So should you choose it over the competition You’ll need to stick with Mat and find out for yourself! oh, car journalism.
1) vw ic back with what exactly, vw was same with r trim etc as always.
2) where else you want good seats if not in low/sporty cruiser, as passat ect are is way better to have sporty seat in suv boats etc in teh end of the video he comes to conclusion, that seats are great and perfect for this kind of commuter, but it still need ranting at the start
3) vipers: they use this kind of settings for viper service (aka changing rubber) for years in vag car, also manj other brands, this is really something annoying all the sudden, to press a stick to lift vipers in center position, lol
4) comparing to mercedes: i actually have exact this annoying voice assist happening in merc car and i find gear/drive selector on vag variant better. yes, center screen could be better/responsive and imo doesn't need to be as big, but again; there0s majority of other brands, that use exact same principle and tech.
don't get me wrong, overall its nice, quick overview of teh car, but sometimes a llttle mor of realistic balance would be appropriate.

Gone are the good old days of VW. 2000's- Passat R36, Passat W8, Phaeton V10 TDI, Phaeton W12, Tuareg V10 TDI, Tuareg R50, Golf R32, Golf VR6, Golf VR5, Bora VR6 estate, Lupo GTi. They just make boring overpriced cars now that are sub par to their CHEAPER sub brands. They had one interesting car, the UP! GTi, but they've stopped that now. The Arteon is by no means a replacement for the Phaeton, the Golf GTi, R and GTE and all too expensive and boring. The Polo GTi only comes in DSG, which defeats the point of a small hot hatch imo, and all the ID's apart from the Buzz are miserable ugly things. The fact you could buy a normal run of the mill mid size saloon/estate car with a 4L W8 under the bonnet with quad exhausts and 4 wheel drive, was just epic. I know these days it's just not practical with fuel costs and tax, but it wasn't really practical back then either, it was just a bit crazy. And that's cool.

9: 20 It may not seem as impressive as having an umbrella _hidden inside the door, _ but having one accessible without first opening the door is simply better.
Think about trying to access that umbrella from the driver seat while rain is pouring down. You can't just crack the door ajar and grab it unless you also fully open the window. You have to open the door to the rain, step into the rain, grab the umbrella, close the door, then open the umbrella. You'll be wet before you even touch the umbrella.
If the umbrella is inside, you can start opening it before you open the door, push it up outside as you open the door farther, and have it fully open before you even step out of the car. (This has the added benefit of keeping water off the door switches if there are any)

Mat, I think it is time for you to give some info about spring stiffness. Cause you keep telling the same thing over and over in a lot of reviews. And it is very wrong.
A heavier car will need stiffer springs, yes. But this does not mean you have to feel stiffer because there is a thing called natural frequency. If you increase the mass and spring rate in proportion, you will have the same nat. freq. And probably your sprung/unsprung mass ratio will increase and you will have a better ride comfort. What you are feeling is some setup preference, not a consequence of increased weight. Please learn this for gods sake!

Idk why cars have to get so complex and luxurious! Not every car needs to be a ventilated office chair with couple of tablets and a plethora of safety features thats only works untill 60/80 mph. Its not like accidents have been reduced or anything. Tbh idk what a luxurious car is at this point.
.
Govt should encourage car manufacturers to buy cars for the working class and not just the upper middle class and high class society!

Problem with it is pricing and how low it is. The average wage in thr UK is 34k. VW has lost the plot. Its a VW estate. Nothing special. They need to reinvent their whole manufacturing process if they cant make a wagone with a reasonable price.
Roads are so bad and this thing like most non SUV and truck body styles are not deisgned for anything other than pristine, flat, well funded paved roads.
No reason for it to be this low.

Can we all agree that 'modern' new car design peaked between 2010 and 2020, when there was enough tech to keep people happy but cars had smaller screens, physical buttons for AC and infotainment and the prices hadn't quite reached the level of insanity they have now. Oh, and brands had a bit more of their own identity. Now it's impossible to decipher between the waves of bland SUVs and crossovers which all look overly aggressive and fussy.

Why do no wagons lay the seats back properly/completely flat any more In an older V70 you could fit the box of a 75 inch TV, and it would lie there completely flush to the floor, being safe even for today’s flimsy panels. But that is the only use case for a completely flat floor I can think of though, besides making a bed in there to camp in. And a slight angle might be good for, eh, something, I guess

The proportions and the exterior is hideous in real life. In a lower trim is a disaster. The old one was conservative but with nice lines. It's like it was created from 3 sides, not 360. Front, side, rear. Look at it from an angle and it's like they forgot it's 1 product and not 3. Superb is a masterclass in design. It's like they want to kill the passat and just keep the skoda.

If I had access to a charger and was in the market for a big sedan, I'd most certainly go for the ID. 7 Tourer with 210kW compared to the PHEV. In Germany the ID. 7 Tourer is now only 500 more expensive than the PHEV Passat and 9, 000 more compared to the diesel 2. 0 TDI. No wonder VW is increasing ID. 7 production in Emden.

The common theme lately amongst automotive manufacturers is 'corporate' face has moved into the corporate interior. I am aware manufacturers previously shared switches and stalks, but it now they are scaling up the exact same interior designs and only adding a unique seat material.

The results from my cursory, few minutes long reseaarch yielded roughly the same price range for the 2024 top line Skoda Superb Estate - 46-47k in the UK. The VAG executives figure it out so the affordable, very good for the money VW alternative is no more.

Pricing aside, what were VWs UK marketing team thinking, when they gave CarWow the weakest engined Passat. For me what makes the Passat is the 2. 0TDI either in 150hp or 193hp trim and that's what will make 70% of Passats sold.

A decent car from VW /Skoda outfit, but the cost kills it, similar money buys you a BMW, Audi or MB. no competition really. However, with all cars nowadays, awful design for the wheels, and where are the ex. pipes

The reason I bought Focus instead of Passat/Octavia is that it has mechanical buttons. I do not understand who think it is good to operate tablet during driving. Especialy table with so clunky operating system.
reply

Look you can't buy this car in Europe simply because of the new annoying speed limit assistant, as well as the blackbox and the EU planning for alcohol testers. buy older cars and you'll have more freedom!
reply

Why are cars so expensive in the UK In the states for the same price about you can get like a really really nice Genesis, or bmw, I don't want to sound ignorant, but why are the cars there so expensive
reply

The Skoda is cheaper - but the level of comfort is lower too. It drives less good, it steers less good, the transmission is not as smooth and the interior quality is worse. Just saying: )
reply

Most European car prices are getting ridiculous and this 47k Passat is a great example of it. They deserve losing the market to Chinese brands as will likely happen over the next decade.

The only thing i dont like about new cars is the screens they are so bad and laggy ok have screen for fun stuff but to put buttons that the car needs in to the laggy device is bad
