New Hyundai Santa Fe Review: BEST Car of 2025

Change your car with Carwow: This is the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe! Hyundai has gone to town on the Santa Fe, updating the looks from a regular, fairly ordinary-looking SUV to one of the most imposing 7-seaters on the road today! So, is it more style over substance, or should you consider the Santa Fe over competitors like Skoda Kodiaq or Nissan X-Trail Let’s take a closer look. So of course, we need to start with the design, and it’s fair to say we’re seeing a bit of classic Land Rover design language from the outside But that’s no bad thing! The boxy shape really helps the Santa Fe stand out on the road, as do the smart and unique H-shaped daytime running lights. The front end is minimalistic and impressive, while the rear end is clean but really emphasises the boxy design. Step inside and the Santa Fe is a really nice place to be. There’s a large curved screen that incorporates both the digital dials and infotainment screen, and thankfully there are separate dials for the climate controls. The seats are super comfortable, and the majority of the cabin is fitting with soft touch materials. There are absolutely tonnes of cupholders, so practicality isn’t an issue, and even adults can fit into the third row of seats if needs be! When it comes to performance, there’s only one engine available - a 1. 6-litre 4-cylinder. This is available as either a self-charging hybrid with 215hp, or a plug-in hybrid with 253hp. The new Santa Fe range starts from around 46, 000, rising up to around 50, 000 once you’ve added a couple of options. But should you really choose it over some of its class-leading rivals You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! Been waiting for this review for months! It has some baffling things, like the constantly resetting driver assistance settings, the top trim level only allowing black leather when lower levels get a choice of colours, no climate control in the middle row, no sunroof option in the PHEV and a disgusting terracotta orange default colour! It's also extremely frustrating that UK/EU environmental regulations mean we can't get the full choice of engines or wheels that the rest of the world get. That said, I've still ordered one!

Do you want space The swoopy backs of many cars simply rob vertical space - keep it square and suddenly you have a world of room - it’s why you still see very wealthy people clinging to their Disco 4s as they have a such a usable load carrying capacity with high vertical space and a wide loading door - the Defender just doesn’t have the same space or access! Kids bikes are a good test - so would always favour a square back and wider door! This lacks a high enough load space - that vertical space is so useful.

You know, it makes me livid that they fit a lot of the things you need easy access to into the touch screens by removing the 'messy' buttons we have grown used to over the years. Then, they go and fit an eye tracker so that you have to keep your mince pies on the road ahead, and it then tells you off with an annoying beep when you have to look away from the road to operate the damn things controls that should be reachable and, and, AHHHHHHHH!

Hey Mat, Our car life seems similar, My 1st car was a fiesta xr2 also and wanted the peugeot 205gti. I went down the golf Gti route instead because I wanted the car shows, then had VR6 golf then numerous pulsar Gtir's and Tommi maks which were the good days As soon I changed to M3's for the nurburgring I knew I had matured to muchwas always chasing the reg of the cars instead of the fun of the cars, That's when you know your life is over

The engine is still to small! Why would you want a motorbike engine in a car Look at Toyota they have a 2. 5 L hybrid and gasmileage is class leading and so is longevity. A small engine will always strain to much and have a shorter life span. French hybrids are a good exampel of that. Who in their right mind would put a 1. 2L turbo engine in a Peugeot 3008. It's doomed to fail around 100k.

THIS. is not the best car of 2025. Because:
1) It is not a car.
And more important.
2) It is far from best.
Incoherent styling inside and out, and mediocre performance, both in acceleration and fuel economy.
. And it is overpriced, even compared to its competition.
. And it should not be compared to an Audi or even Skoda.

I kinda like the back design. Not beautiful, but unique enough and it's a box shape, hard to do anything great with it. I think if the rear lightbar and the Hyundai logo were switched it would look totally normal and unassuming (but then the side reflectors were out of place.

He's compared the looks to the original Defender and the Disco but it looks nothing like either. This car is as ugly as f and looks more like a 90s Daewoo Musso than anything. This guy has to be one of the worst car reviewers ever - how the hell does he keep getting work!

Two problems:
1)The rear end is hideous.
2)It’s a Hyundai. Trash reliability.
There is so much to like about these things - SOOO MUCH - but mechanics constantly complain about the reliability of them.
Otherwise I would have owned one on my last purchase.

Half of car done by designers, half by economics. Probably the ugliest car that Hyundai designed. No ways this is premium in any way or shape.
When sales flops, and it will, it will get 10-15k discounts without problems.

reply

I’m open minded but come on this car is ugly and only boring people will buy it.
A car has to be something we hunker for and if you hunker for this I suspect you’re enjoying the current government’s policies.

Brilliant car with zero design heritage excepy copying Land Rover Discovery and Defender, has zero evolutionary design from the previous Santa Fe, and looks like a hearse from the back. Yep, go ahead and buy it!

The hybrid uses the same powertrain as the Tucson, and unfortunately in the states the PHEV isn’t available yet for the Santa Fe. This car I feel would benefit from the PHEV’s extra power compared to the Tucson
reply

Love the look of the car, it's a shame the vegan leather is rubbish, I own the Tucson with the same leather, within 6 weeks it had loads of marks that they can't remove, no more trusting Hyundai for me

1. I agree the back design is just lazy.
2. Fairly sure it's illegal (or strongly advised against) putting your children in the front of the car in most countries, so why bother putting ISOFIX in there

reply

WTH is the talking about 46775 pounds In Belgium this car's base price is 68. 499 euros which is 57. 300 pounds. Other EU countries have around the same price mark. That price for a fkn Hyundai lol.

What's f. ucking going on , they only make ugly cars The best designers are now working in China. BMW X5 E53 looks much better and materials quality better after 25 years and price just 6K

I got a 2024 Santafe 2. 5 turbo and it does 0-60mph in about 6. 2 seconds i dont why they didn't sell the 2. 5 or the 2. 5T as it comes with over 430nm and 290hp
Also it tows 2. 1Tons

reply

I saw one of these on the M60 a couple of days ago and it looked interesting. The rear design looked better than it does in the review here. It certainly had a presence on the road.

And in 3 to 5 years it's gonna start falling apart no matter how much you cuddle it, because that's what you get from these trendy/woke brands that cut corners: )
