Change your car with Carwow: We’ve got our hands on a Porsche 996 911 Turbo S and it’s going up against A Skoda Superb! Think it sounds like an unfair match-up Well, let’s take a closer look at the stats. Starting with the Porsche, it’s powered by a 3. 6-litre twin-turbo flat-six that produces 450hp and 620Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed automatic gearbox, and the car weighs 1, 630kg. When new, the 911 Turbo cost around 101, 000. Then we come to the Skoda. Normally, its 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo produces 280hp and 350Nm of torque. However, this Superb has been tuned! As a result, it now puts down 477hp and 661Nm! Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch, and it weighs slightly more than the Porsche, tipping the scales at 1, 670kg. So the Skoda has more power than the Porsche, but it’s slightly heavier! So can an all-new family-friendly Skoda really take down a Porsche There’s only one way to find out for sure LET’S RACE!

Ea888 3 gen tuning is phenomenal. You get nearly 100bhp from a remap alone. It you fit fuel pump on the Skoda it’s over 500bhp.
The engine has direct and indirect fuel injection and the turbo are basically bolted straight into the exhaust manifold so little lag.
Dsg with clutch updated will be good for about 550bhp, 500Ibs/ft.

The funniest duo ever and he is the only guy that overwhelms Mat. Matt is always too much for Yianny, but Sam gets him. It doesn't matter whether Sam wins or loses. It always looks like there's some unfinished business they need to settle in a running race or boxing ring. Don't forget that villain, laughter.

The 996 was the last generation of 991 where the manual transmission had better acceleration than the automatic. In the 997 the Tiptronic S was slightly better and since the PDK is the standard, it has much better acceleration.
If the Porsche had manual transmission, it would have won every time.

How to bring Rimac It is NOT a real car. A REAL car should sound like the other two sharing cars, you should smell petrol and exhaust fumes.
Rimac is as exciting as watching paint dry on a wall.
Then Rimac is a worse polluter of the environment than the other two on the climate.

I think it's time you had a proper lights system for the start. Sam definitely jumped the 3rd and 5th race. Matt on the 2nd race, went as soon as the arms started moving, which means he guessed when the arms would start going down. If he went a tenth before it would've been a jump.

Super nice to see fast Superb Estate! :D My Superb dynoed 472hp with TTE475 turboWMI and now going for full forged engine targeting 600 hp with Xona X3C turbo.
1/4 mile is tad slow for that power level, I did 12. 1 with TTE475 turbo on Superb Estate.

It would be awesome to add a real-world drag race where you simply transition from braking to accelerating, just like you would when taking off from a green light. It would be fun to see how different cars react when an unexpected launch occurs

The Matt scream at the finish line was just a beauty! But the 911 Turbo. with the smile at 9: 16 says everything about every petrolhead ever. We may be different and we may like different things, but that's one of the things that connects us all: D

Considering the 20 year age gap I think the porsche did very well. The gear box tech alone makes up for a few seconds on a quarter mile I would think. If you put a modern gearbox in that old porsche I think the porsche takes it everytime.

No matter what you do to the Skoda, on a run the Porker was always going to win. Cars are more than just power and torque, theirs gearing, final drive ratio, type of slushbox in these Auto's etc. It's not a surprise the 911 was faster.

Great race to watch. that Porsche is a bucket list car but the spec on that Skoda is literally Superb. Is the Skoda the ultimate fast family wagon for the price. what comes close with that spec
reply

The Skoda no matter what ever the model has always been under rated. This video is a testiment to how good the car actually is be it tuned. But any 911 no matter what era it comes from is always timeless.

Mat, you know, unfortunately, the 2. 0 Vaga engine is not designed for frequent racing from a standing start in a row. The transmission and engine heat up, this is a disease of the 2. 0

He should be saying:
911: Formal Protest
Denied
911: Informal Protest
Denied
911: Let’s change the question
You are still racing a Skoda.
You know what I mean if you know

Stevie Wonder could see how Watson jumps the start Yet Again, can't you just give us viewers a true and fair comparison without bloody cheating and get rid of that blind adjudicator.

You should also do drag races without launch control. Just stomp on the throttle and go. This would really show off a cars powerband and how well they do with/without launch control.
reply

There is no way the skoda has 477hp. A stage 1 (370hp) audi s3 with the same engine does the quarter mile in 11. 8s. Yes the s3 is a bit lighter but there is a 100hp difference.

Now that is a sleeper car I could use. Not some old junk, which would be totally unusable as a daily, but a perfectly reasonable comfortable car (in a top spec, no less)
reply

I find it impressive that a 20 year old sports car with a 5 speed auto is still faster than a modern car with a modern gearbox tuned to 200bhp more than stock with a hybrid turbo etc
reply

The bigger the engine, the later it accelerates and starts pulling better only at higher speeds. For example 2. 0 diesel is faster than 1. 5 diesel only above 80.
