Kings College London has recently conducted some interesting research into this issue by comparing a typical Euro 6 diesel (a Peugeot 3008) against a wide range of Euro 6 non GDI petrol engines, including several hybrids. The results are startling. Measuring both PM2. 5 and PM10 particulates, the particulate emissions from the best of the petrol cars was roughly 10 times higher than the diesel, with the worst being roughly 100 times higher.
Kings College London research has also shown that diesel passenger cars emit just 4% of London-s NO2 (and this is falling year on year) and a fraction of 1% of London-s particulate pollution.
I really do despair at the quality of debate on this issue, and the British people believe all the bull shit they are told by the BBC etc. Our government does not seem willing or able to make sensible policy decisions based on reality. It-s appalling.
The irony here is that the -green- policies aimed at encouraging renewables are the real culprits behind the poisoning of city dwellers. The motorist is, once again, the soft target, and making diesel drivers feel guilty is just a way of making the target even softer.

Yeh but this scrapage sceame is just so fake and a big fraud they never pay your car that much and also why would you give in your fuel car for a shit electric or shit ugly new cars. I will never do that and scrapage sceame is not helping it's actually making it worse for the environment as so much metal is sitting in the yards and new cars are just sitting there to rott out. That not helping. So no to scrapage sceame and it's not worth it any way. Why would you trade in a good car for a shitty new cars that have no style looks and sound. Just sick of these new electrics and shit ugly big looking cars now. This is all for money they doing it not for environment. If they were for environment they shouldve been planting more plants trees and greenery and not building more buildings every were. And why don't they ban smoking as that's bad for so many people. But no they always do something shit that we car lovers don't like.

It's amazing shit newer vehicles say they burn it up making even more carbon monoxide or whatever it is I would like to see them go to a centrifugal collection method or at least something of that nature where one can manually empty it and then the destruction or disposal process can take place in a centralized location and making use of the heat energy in one form or another or since isn't that so basically already captured carbon if you catch it can't wait to smash it into some industrial diamonds and never hurt anybody ever again think outside the box these emissions today should be able to clean up or withstand the deposits of the dirtiest two-stroke Detroit Diesel they ever made

He did not reved that audi properly. .what else will they come out with to rob us? They do make massive amount of money on fake global warming now called climate change because previous name did not work and It was exposed as hoax in front of EU Parlament. If CO2 will get from 300 ppm to 150 ppm the plants will start dying. When vulcano errupt it throws so much CO2 into the atmosphere that whole industry we have would have to work for 100 years to produce that. DID anything change? I do not think so. We have to go more green and enviromently firendly but for the love of God do not use lies to achieve that and please no more taxes based on this lies as well

Government pushed everybody to buy a diesel because it was -better for the environment-, a few years later and people are being told they're bad and that we must switch to EV's.

Thsi is a 2004 BMW 1 series, which at the time didn-t have the DPF filter installed. You can tell by the way the pipe is facing down. Since 2005 BMW started installing DPFs by default on all of its Diesels. Had he picked up a different car with DPF installed, there would be no difference between the two tests. The current issues around the subject of diesel are based on the NOx emissions, those have nothing to do with the fine particles and cannot be -shown- on a piece of cloth.

the 09 BMW in the video is faulty, an 09 plate with a properly functioning dpf will not issue soot particles like that. Latest diesels are a right pain with the need to regularly top up adblue. Car manufacturers are panicking as diesel sales drop, the scrappage is more about propping up sales than about car manufacturers environmental concerns (think VW)

I can understand the need for getting uncared for diesels off the road - ones which seem to blow black smoke out the back under acceleration. Perhaps that's what's wrong with the 1-Series used here. But what about all the perfectly reasonable, MOT-passing, healthy and looked after motors? Not convinced.

Diesels are far cleaner now. Old diesels get pretty bad press unfairly. You could easily change injectors and service that older engine to be far cleaner. Going back to the 70s, diesels were rough and dirty. That 04 plater had a good engine, which could be serviced and slightly modified. too dramatic.

Unfair comparison. Something most people miss is the -air mass meter-. It wears out with age and incorectly reads incoming air as a diesel has no other reference like the o2 sensor so it cannot trim out and compensate for AMM errors. Drive the -new- Audi the same distance as BMW then repeat the test.
