Porsche Taycan RWD review: 0-60mph, 1/4 mile & drift test!

This is the new entry-level Porsche Taycan! Now, we say entry-level, but let-s be clear - it-s not exactly cheap! It starts at just over -70, 000, which is about -13, 000 less than the four-wheel drive 4S edition. So when the price isn-t exactly that much less than the 4S, we-re just wondering if it-s worth it? Well for starters this RWD Taycan comes with two choices of battery packs. The normal comes with 408hp and 345Nm. However, if you choose the longer range edition, you'll be treated to 476hp & 357Nm! So, it's not too bad, but let's face it - it's considerably less than the more powerful editions! However, there's one thing the more powerful editions can't compete with, unlike this RWD Taycan - the starting price for an entry-level Model S, which Porsche clearly has in its sights! But ultimately, while the price is so similar to the AWD 4S (and that-s even before you add a load of options, are you just better off spending that bit more?

Matt, you also know air suspension is arguably the single worst option on any car, and only fools select it.
Air suspension is a fundamentally unsound invention as nothing can be made to contain high pressure gas for any decent period of time. And to expect such a part of last underneath a car, and protect it from every impact is. well, it is crazy, sorry. Car makers are very cynical to offer the option, as well.
You might as well just take an enormous bag of cash money and set it on fire. And make that a really big bag.
No car which starts on air bags ends its life on airbags! (Unless they're written off) They all get springs put in them, after some poor owner is delusional enough to think the system can be repaired, and repaired again, and again, and again.
Until common sense takes over, and springs are installed. Then the car never has suspension trouble ever again!

Matt - you and I both know that trip times are not controlled by how quickly your car can accelerate. It is dictated by you refusing to use the brake pedal before corners, and by maintaining full speed through bends and corners.
My average speed is significantly higher than other drivers, but my cruising speed is just 5-10 km/h faster than theirs. I just do not slow down in the twisty bits - and if I'm honest, I actually speed up.
That's what makes for quick trip times. Not a 1000 BHP or a 350km/h top speed!

Love your reviews Matt! I think the front of this car is Cherry red is gorgeous. I have to say though, my Tesla model 3 LR is also gorgeous in the front! , has a way longer range, is insanely fast, and most of the Porche -options - are included in the price I paid! We love it so much we purchased two! Idk, this car seems too expensive for such a low range and everything I would want being an option. I just can't find another electric car that beats Tesla yet in the overall package and price.

I really like the design of the car, but I find that fake vent totally unnecessary. I don't usually find fake vents that frustrating as long as there isn't a ton of them, but the one on the side of the taycan looks sort of 'sticky outy' and sort of disrupts the flow of the car imo. I know that looks are subjective, but I think that that's one of the areas they could have designed better

Matt: _Sorry Porsche! I've lost your cover. _
Porsche: _You have to buy the car now. _
Matt: _But I can't afford it! _
Porsche: _Ah, well, you should've thought about that before losing stuff. On the plus side, your wallet will fit in the central compartment between the front seats and you can have the car resprayed if you're really not fond of its colour. _: )

This is why I'll never buy a car from standard luxury auto makers. The nickle and diming is preposterous. And for the price of this car, it doesn't feel like you're getting much besides bragging rights. I'd sooner buy a Tesla. No thanks, Porsche. With electric cars you're doing the same crap you've been doing with your petrol cars. Ie you're making money, not cars i want to own.

When I was young I frequently drew pictures of cars. This was back in the 1980s/ early 1990s. I loved Porsches back the and, inspired by dad never wanting to buy a car that didn't have rear passenger doors, drew a design for a 4 door Porsche!
With this Taycan I think someone got hold of one of my drawings. -
Nice car though.

My brother earns 23. 000 dollars each month before taxes, i asked him: Why dont you buy a car like this. He says i dont need this to feel good, i dont get why you have to buy expensive stuff to feel important. well i guess thats the difference between an engineer like him and a pizzaman like me: )

I drove the top end model this evening for a few hours. absolutely frightened the shit out of myself with its off the line torque. The car is far too fast in all honesty, but that said it did feel like I knew the car way better than I should after only 5 minutes behind the wheel.

I don't like the front design. I think it would look much better without the -teardrop- air vents ) below the lights. Just try and cover them with your fingers to see what I mean. Why is this Porsche crying, anyway? Because it's not as great as a 911? -
