BMW iX review: 0-60mph, Autobahn and range test!

Here-s the BMW iX - BMW-s first purpose-built, all-electric SUV! So does the iX stand a chance against class leaders like the Tesla Model X or Audi e-tron? Well, it-s time to find out! Starting with the exterior design, there-s no denying that it-s certainly striking! Sure, it doesn-t need the massive -grille- upfront, but if anything it clearly helps it to stand out on the road. What-s more, the high-quality of the outside continues through to the inside, where you-ll find a minimalist design coupled with a load of tech. The performance isn-t all that bad either! When it comes to the range-topping xDrive50 edition, it comes equipped with a 100kWh battery which is good for a claimed range of 373 miles. It also produces 500hp, and can hit 60mph in under five seconds! So the question is - is it really worth the -95, 000 starting price for the range-topping iX50? And should you consider it over a Model X?

I think the front and back looks pretty good but not amazing, from the side the car looks extremely boring, inside looks very good but that crystal glass looks like fake obnoxious luxury and I do like a fair bit of traditional nobs for the ease of use whilst driving. The back seats look extremely spacious to the point of pointless though? I mean there are quite a few other crossover EVs with bigger boot space than the iX that aren't and bigger or even smaller. Some car maker should invent a way to slide the back seats forwards or backwards so you can pick your own needed back seat space v. s. boot space - whilst keeping it possible to fold the seats down.

Again, well explained and appears the acceleration, suspension, steering and braking, are fairly impressive as is the interior space. But call it as seen, this is one very ugly car. Appears designed by 3 separate teams, one front, another side and then back, at which point with blindfolds on, stuck all three sections together. Then came designers of the dash, who did a boring flowing type dash before realising forgot the instruments, at which point they just thought we will stick on an electric panel and attach with a couple of brackets to hold it on. Overall, this car is disjointed, uncoordinated and clumsy in design. It would want to drive really well!

There's a lot of i3 DNA in this car, and I like that. I think it looks good, and the interior is excellent. What's not so excellent is the price tag. I mean, it's nice, but it's not THAT nice. I can buy a used Rolls Royce Phantom for that money. I know, I know, apples to oranges, etc, but you get the point. I'm sure BMW is trying to recoup the obscene amount of money they've spent in development of this car, but it would have been better to recoup that money in volume of sales, with a lower price tag to make it available to more people, than essentially making it so only the 1% can afford the thing. I'd love to own one otherwise.

0: 42 -Designed from the ground up- but still has styling cues from ICE = a car brand that is going bust because they are incompetent. They only appeared competent with ICE because of all the legacy-work created by great designers and engineers, but they have long since retired.
02: 30 Tesla got rid of all the switches for extreme cost-cutting measures when batteries cost more than a VW-Golf. Batteries are now much cheaper and BMW is not competing with anything else Tesla is doing, so the lack of proper switches is another massive mistake as that is arguably the biggest problem with Tesla vehicles.

Can we just stop and appreciate the fact that the second generation X1 has 505 liters of boot space vs the iX which has 500. One car is $42, 000 the other is $80, 000 (CAD), big difference, it almost makes you ask yourself if the electric batter for almost 35 grand more is going to pay itself off in terms of gas.
All we need now are for these gas prices to go down, which I'll assume is only going to keep getting higher, they just want to push everybody off gas and go full electric by 2035

How are the seats for longer drives Matt? I just realized with my 2018 X3 that you can-t drive more than 3 hours at a time without getting numbness and pain in your buttocks. The seats offer very little surface contact and they are unnecessary hard even the -comfort- ones. In fact I can-t fit properly with my back in the -sport- ones and I-m a normal adult size.
BTW, is there a BMW that doesn-t have a -Buy it- from Matt?

Can't say the exterior doesn't have great features. In fact it has some amazing features. Problem is they tried putting all these features on one car. Kinda like walking into the kitchen of a Cordon-Bleu chef and chucking all the ingredients into a pot.
That thing looks hideous, what is w BMW and these humongous grills! Feel like if they'd it smaller the design would've been more palatable

It seems that no one these days thinks about how problematic it is when the sun shines on your dash. This is the reason traditional dashes are recessed. All these huge fancy curved TVs they're replacing the dash with are going to be a nightmare for people who don't only drive at night.

Its UGLY Period! Id rather have an Audi eTron GT. That crystal glass rubbish looks all too Gansta for my taste! So prepare yourself for spending 2 hours faffing about with the infotainment system just to get it to work to your personal taste, Honestly BMW what the hell?
