Let s get up close and personal with the new Volkswagen ID5! Mat s got hold of Volkswagen s new electric coupe SUV, and in this video he s going to find out if it has what it takes to compete with cars such as the Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E. The ID5 is based on the Volkswagen ID4, and as a result they look identical at the front. It s the rear end where things get interesting. You get a swoopy rear end, a spoiler and a full-width light bar. It looks more interesting than the ID4, however it still doesn t look like 50, 000 worth of SUV. Step inside and you ll find decent interior quality and plenty of cubby spaces. Passenger space is decent, despite the sloping roofline robbing a bit of rear headroom. While you do get a large infotainment screen, it s a bit of a fiddle to use and overall the cabin isn t as premium looking as the Kia EV6 s. All ID5 models get a 77kWh battery pack with up to 316 miles of range. Motor-wise, you can have a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model with either 174hp or 204hp, then there s the hot GTX model with dual motors, all-wheel-drive and 299hp. Damjan: The Koreans are in a league of their own when it comes to EVs other than Tesla. I can't believe how much the tide has shifted - the European brands can't seem to catch up, and the Koreans are one step ahead - the opposite of which was in the last 50 years. It seems like hard work, innovation, and not trying to rip off your customers does pay off after all

Cars on this platform are really piece of crap for that bunch of money. These weird design things (like the window control buttons, fact that these cars have no power (compare to BMW or tesla in similar price range, the fact that max speed is around 160-180 depends on the car, slow charging compare to competitors. it is just a joke for this amount of money. None of these things really matter for daily car, car is comfortable, but for that price what the hell is this?

This is the epitome of why all VW ID products currently available to buy are cack; the drivetrain s bang average, it s cheaply built and ludicrously expensive in comparison with much better rivals. I m hopeful the ID Buzz will sort out these problems but for now you will not see me anywhere near a VW dealership.

Matt your such a ID hater, not everyone wants a Tesla. Yer the ID range isn t exciting and can t 0-60 in sub 4 seconds, but I don t want excitement when taking the kids to school, or on a shopping trip. Let s face it the Tiguan isn t exciting, and VW have sold a fair few of them.

Not enough people say this but electric cars are in the essence a last ditch effort by car companies to make cars relevant. The batteries used use rare earth metals and I know the same could be said with combustion engine cars but that still doesn t make things ok

No convertible please! Crossover convertibles should just not exist because they are an insult to the eye of the beholder. T-Roc conv. is an absolute pile of crap for example. No suv-crossover conv. Period.

Love how mat reviews everyday cars then surprises us with a supercar/hypercar review to shake things up. Also how many background checks did you have to pass before the wife let you buy the recaro baby seat?

Well it's a no thanks from me. I deeply despise the touch crap on the steering wheel and dash, and all new VW models suck because of it. I'll just keep my mk 7. 5 GTI for a few more years: -)

So a minute and a half into the video I can hear somebody s cell phone go off which is a bit more distracting than the beep you had going on while in the backseat to be honest:

Is everybody except me getting richer these days? When did it become normal for a VW family car to cost 50K? Same for push bikes, people seem happy to spend 4k on a road bike.

He always talks about clicking the pop-out banner or clicking the link in the description to watch this or that car review, but there never is a link. Really annoying.

The cars is abs garbage. the interior is hideous. is expensive like a 2017 porsche and it's wrong on so many levels.
What are bosses of VW group thinking? Lmao

reply

60k! That's insane, you could have a top of the range EV6 for less and its objectively better in every way. You could almost have an EV6 GT for that much!
