Ferrari 296 GTB v Ferrari SF90: DRAG RACE

We ve got two incredible Ferrari hybrid supercars going head-to-head over the quarter-mile! The question is, can the newer 296 GTB beat the almighty tri-motor SF90? Well, let s take a closer look. Starting with the 296 GTB, it s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo V6 coupled with an electric motor. These drive the rear wheels and combine to produce 830hp and 740Nm of torque. It still remains pretty light, tipping the scales at 1, 470kg. Then we have the SF90. It comes equipped with a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with three electric motors - two at the front and one at the back. Combined, they produce an eye-watering 1, 000hp and 800Nm, pushing this power through all four wheels. It s a bit heavier than the 296 GTB, though, at 1, 570kg.

I wonder if the sf90 has issues eith disengaging part of the electric engines when it doesnt need them, or if it only makes the full 1000hp in short bursts. That would explain why its incredibly close, because lets be honest 100-150kg of weight is not going to overcome a 170hp advantage. Possibly in launch mode, the engine/electric motors are triggered by the software to go at full tilt for x amount of time, but maybe in a rolling race they're at a lower setting.

I'm honest, it seems strange to me on the zeperfs and fastest laps site, numerous tests give the fastest sf90 almost 1 second on 0-200 compared to 296. and also in 0- 300 there are 2 full seconds. therefore either the tests are not done in a professional way or the driver of the sf90 does not accelerate well and weighs much more because the result of the rolling race also seems very strange to me

A few things there: Why again the gyros(donner) guy? Second, why the f. are you on manual! Leave it to the machine and that'd show which's really fastest. Manual makes the test irrelevant. Third - it two different classes, of course the sf90 would be faster: .

I would say 296 is quicker but from the 6th gear up. Also looking at the back spoiler of SF90 I think it might have more downforce which really slows you down at higher speeds. Nonetheless both cars are quick as hell.

296 GTB proves why Ferrari is by a landslide the best supercar maker I was hoping mclaren would catch up but their hybrid artura is not even faster than 720s but this 296 would smoke any pure petrol ferrari

The most shocking thing? They both don't sound that good, I mean not bad but not great, especially considering the level of cars they are, get a f430 even they sound way better than either of these

The 296 is the fastest 2WD you have ever tested there I believe, other than the RB F1, and the conditions were pretty unfavorable considering the 4WD SF90 has been half second slower than usual.

You should made the rolling races with their automatic transmissions so you can judge which is fast. Why did you make it in manual mode and judge with the driver s factor?

I don't care if it's just two cars, put the damn stats up? Is it really that hard for the graphics guy? Or getting him the info? Like, what's the gap I'm missing here?

That 296 is actually beautiful. It's like the first time in a while that Ferrari made one of their supercars look more like a sports car, and the lines are just seductive

Nice races! Power to weight ratio wins when traction isn't a factor when the power and torque figures aren't that different. And SF90 is too heavy compared to the 296.
reply

Hmmmm not sure id class the SF90 as a proper 4wd.
All its engine power goes to rear wheels and it has 2 small electric motors at the front

Sf90 keeps getting slower since new! the best it s done was a 9. 6sec now doing a 9. 9sec what a mess. 911 turbo still doing decent 10. 2/3/4 slowest

Hell yeah, this is the race to see, i can't even afford the wheels from this cars, but at least i got the joy of watching you guys enjoying the ride.
