It s been 7 years since the Model 3 was first unveiled, and this is the biggest design overhaul yet! The question is, how much has changed? Well, Mat s got hands-on with the car to take a closer look. In terms of the design, there are a few notable changes. Up top, there are a pair of slimmer, sleeker headlights, and there s also a big central vent as part of the bumper. This helps give it a more aggressive look compared to the previous model. The side profile remains pretty similar to before, apart from a set of new alloy wheel designs. Around the back, the Model 3 comes with updated taillights and a new bumper. The car is also available in a couple of new, exclusive paint colours! On the inside, the look and feel are still pretty similar to before, but there are a couple of notable differences. While the large portrait infotainment screen remains, the dash around it has been updated, with new LED lights added to it. There a better quality materials to be found throughout the cabin compared to before, and the infotainment system has been updated and is much quicker and more responsive than before. The indicator buttons have now also been integrated into the steering wheel. When it comes to performance, the Model 3 still comes with a single-motor RWD edition and a dual-motor long-range edition. However, aerodynamic improvements and overall performance updates mean the car can now travel further, with the single-motor RWD having a range of 346 miles, while the dual-motor can travel for up to 423 miles! The new Model 3 won t be released in the UK until next year, but thankfully, the price is set to stay pretty similar to before - so you can expect entry-level models to cost around 42, 000. But will it be worth the wait? You ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! Interior is improved and yes, it's very much a facelift on the exterior. But the ride and NVH needed to improve and if that's been improved, then the 3 is more competitive in those mechanical refinement levels that Tesla was lagging others in. Nothing really surprising and nowhere near the interior update that the S/X had. Only the LED ambient light strip is something not really expected from Tesla.

They took away the stalks and added those hopeless touch buttons instead for the indicator lights. Those will be fun to use in roundabouts. That alone will be a potential deal breaker for some. Instead of a rear screen I would much prefer an instrument cluster or a heads up display since I don't have kids. I was a bit hyped, but I think I'll hold on to my model S a while longer.

It's amazing, but they somehow managed to make it look even more generic, boring and appliance-like. It now looks like a car from some low-budget, non-driving, video game that couldn't afford licensing real cars to have them parked on the side of the streets in cities as you played through the levels. I can't believe people think this looks better than before.

I hope Tesla will implement this for the rest of their EV models (S, X, and Y, and hopefully have carbon ceramic breaks on the Plaid models as standard as well as how much of a range improvement the other three models will get as a result, because that Model 3 Long Range version's range capability looks like quite a significant improvement over the last.

I'm JUST finally coming around to the idea of an EV, and while I'm not a Tesla fan, their charging network is the reason I refuse to consider anything else. but MAN why did they have to get rid of the stalks? I think I can get used to the blinkers on the steering wheel but the gear selector stalk was just great, I don't like that its gone.

Yes. They change nearly everything I wanted. Especially the ventilated seats, the updated interior and new tail lights are absolutely great. And even more efficient. Nice job.
This package for this price means a lot of headache for Teslas competitors.
I'll buy it.

I wish we could have a discussion about these electric cars
there are so many negatives to this technology
Yet censorship prevents people making an informed decision
Hmmmm like something recently that we were forced to take
I am sure this comment wont last

I do wish that Tesla would improve the powertrain and give the car better performance. If they could put a plaid motor in the back and a standard permanent magnet model 3 motor in the front to give more horsepower and acceleration, that would be very cool!

Tesla will never be top of the EV food chain again, most other manufacturers have caught them up and surpassed them in pretty much every field. Don t worry about being short-changed in the UK you re probably better of with one of their competitors anyway!

Congrats on the exclusive look, Mat! Looks like good improvements for the most part. Hate (HATE) the lack of stalks and the cabin feels less warm than the outgoing model, but these look like good changes for the most part. Love the liftgate.

Not a big fan of this new interior. The lack of physical buttons gets annoying fast, being too distractive. Munro would be screaming genius, if Tesla unveiled a plastic injected unibody to save production costs, while screwing the costumers.

I'm really glad I bought a Model 3 just before this change. While I do like the lights, the lack of indicator and shift stalks would really bother me. I also don't believe those range figures and neither should anyone buying one.

The dedication to the series is truly remarkable. The prompt release of each shirt and the anticipation of what comes next is impressive. It's incredible to witness how the series continues to improve and surpass expectations.

Ugh removing indicator stalks for buttons? That's going to be a dangerous muddle when doing roundabouts. You're going to start seeing a whole heap of Teslas either indicating the wrong way or not indicating at all
reply

electric cars cannot yet travel long distances, I'm sure in future time they will do. untill this happens and untill charging time is decreased to reasonable time I'm sticking to my internal combustion engine cars
reply

They one thing they didn't have to change was the front end, the only part of the car that had some character to it. They still didn't add a display in front of the driver, so it's still a dealbreaker for me.

I much prefer this new design over the old one. It looks like a fully matured product now. It seems Tesla may have finally gotten the build and materials quality to match the technology and performance.
reply

I like but doesn t live up to the hype.
Same screen, not larger. Same processor. No battery update. All the hype was about new battery tech.
What s the real epa range for standard 300 miles?

reply

NOW, I will consider one. I hated the front fascia before as it made the car look fugly, but now it look well conceived and mature and with the new improvement in efficiency looks a winner- at long last
reply

Too bad it has lost its Tesla front and now looks even more unspecific. No battery upgrade is a disappointment although we should keep our hopes up about something in the pipeline for 2024.
