This week on Money Pit, the Miata gets a new cat-back exhaust while Zach talks us through the pros and cons of an aftermarket exhaust AND how to install one with basic hand tools! Was it worth it? Bela: Great video I have a custom exhaust just like yours with a resonator and muffler I think this weekend I will clean it and kinda paint the tip ( it s steel and the paint kinda faded: Definitely won t wait for it to rust: P Cheers from Transylvania you have a few fans here: ) (middle of Romania kinda that C between the mountains if your looking for us ) )

I'm so jelly. always wanted an mx5 since the early 90s when i was a kid. when i bought my first car i was really thinking of the mx5, but reason made me go for a VW Eos. 4 seats and a lot of cargo space for a convertible. i think if you have an mx5 you need 2 cars, while an eos lets you have a convertible being totally versatile. i can even put kids seats in the back. did some move outs, holidays with 3 other friends all type of stuff and I just never needed to change car in over 10 years I've had it because it can do it all and it's quite reliable, decently powerful and fuel efficient (turbo diesel 140hp)

Hey Zach, I recently bought a 1985 Mercedes 300 Turbo Diesel as my first car! It s got bad compression in cylinder two and there s oil coming out of the injector hole. Pretty sure that s bad piston rings, though it might be a bad head gasket. Thoughts on how to figure out which one it is and how to replace piston rings? I m working at a mechanic shop this summer so I ll have access to tools.

My exhaust was free. 99. I had a leak on the front of my muffler so I had to fix it to pass a safety. I just replaced the muffler with a resonator I had lying in a literal junk pile. I have a 1. 8l 8V that makes like 82hp at the crank. I'm going to build a good exhaust when I swap it. 2. 0l swap plus a turbo should be fun. Just gotta find an engine, they seem to not exist right now.

Why spend all that money just delete the cat fit in a pipe then you can leave the stock resonator then just get an after market muffle for 100. That's it 100. Changed everything, it didn't make it loud it's still pretty quite. Even with the stock muffler and the cat deleted. I'd say if you don't have money to spend, do it my way, save money and still get a good sound.

Should have went with the Cobalt cat-back. Have had one on my NA 1. 8 Miata for 8 years and it sounds awesome. Also the video didn't point out that a lot of exhaust systems get louder when they warm up. Or the fact that sometimes you get what you pay for with aftermarket exhaust systems. Cheaper exhaust systems have poor longevity and fitment issues.

Here's something I've wondered about for a long time: Negative pressure exhaust system. What if you put an EDF in your exhaust that actively sucked out all the exhaust gasses, leaving your exhaust system in near-vacuum at all times. I'm not saying it would be a good idea, but I'm wondering if anyone has done it.

Great series man! I'm currently gathering parts and tools so I can do some maintenance and servicing. This is my first car a Renault Clio MK3 2010 1. 2, definitely not a car you would go shouting about from the rooftops but it's mine and I am determined to make that car looking like new!

I have a mx5 roadster with the same K&N intake with a dual exhaust set up. It really does compliment the Intake sound. It s been sitting in my garage for 5 years now I just got it started but the coolant hoses bursted from age. Hopefully donut has a little Miata meet up I could take it to.

Not mentioned during Zach's explanation of scavenging and exhaust gas velocity is that these things matter a lot more closer to engine. It's very important at the header, but becomes less important the further down, to the point it has almost no impact near the rear muffler.
