In drift use context, imho there is not mentioned/missed one big drawback for 86es. Due wide boxer engine there is reduced wheel clearance, which in turn results in limited max steering angle. Yes, there are wide angle kits for front suspension, which together with spacers and/or reduced offset wheels to not rub, can fix that. but that's not stock, hence the very big drawback as such. Also seeing lot of gt86 in pro drift not being as successful, imho problem stems mostly that due stock twins engine being that relatively light and short, most engine swaps (majority probably heavy inline-6 JZ) for reliable high power result in fscking up handling balance, which ups difficulties in setting it right and competitive, unlike S chassis. 86es do well for fun to daily drive, they do well on track/auto-x, but for drift? Meh. There are better chassis fit for that specific use. Both at entry/light or no mods drifting, and in extensively purpose modified niches.

On the subject of valve springs: The general consensus is that the valve springs really aren t that bad. Maybe less than 100 cars had issues before the recall occurred. I would say that most 2013 s don t have the recall performed. I called soon after the recall happened and still haven t had my recall yet. There were 2013 s with over 150k miles on the clock and had no issues until after the recall. If the engine ever come out I ll end up doing the valve springs myself, and know that I have at least half a brain to not pump silicone sealant into my heads.

as a sr20det owner if I could do it over I would go kat. reason is I love being able to beat on engines without worryng about breaking something, If i blow the sr im out a few grand, if i blow a kat i can go to any junkyard and get a shortblock for 80 and have the car running again same or next day with just new HG and head bolts and mate the new block over to my head. This creates less worry and makes it so not only you can beat on your car with zero worry but no worries of doing your own tuning and learning.

Why would a cracked dash have anything to do with reliability? You think of reliable you think of will it get me to work or not. Not a 25+ year dash falling apart. And if your talking about a better platform to build on. On both chassis you'd probably go fuel cell on both so what does a gas tank have to do with anything also? Man having even finished the video yet and it's already getting kinda annoying

now that just trashes both cars. If the gas tank on the Silvia is made from that terrible plastic, and the Suburu Engine has pretty bad valve issues that Toyota is incapable of fixing properly, why bother with either of them? That chirping noise. That sounds like a wheel that is having a hard time catching the belt.

The drift tax is just as bad as the muscle car tax, It sucks ass. 90% of the cars I d love to own will be out of reach by the time I get the chance to buy another car. I m just lucky that classic mustang coupes are relatively cheap rn or else I wouldn t have a cool project at all.

don t care, both are expensive and boring. s15 is gorgeous and interesting though (bit rarer to see on the track here in the UK) would much rather have a GTST or a laurel, something more unique. or for a cheap one, 3 series are much better than both for a starter car.

Lets be honest no one really drifts the 86 with the engine it has the schasis on the other is drift with its engine. So if you think the frs is better your wrong because people that ive heard say that theyre good have a different engine in it

Toyota or Honda 1st car choice or Subaru for good 4 season, traction or 4 wheel drive. Made all in Japan. No german or italian engine switch car like the miata or the Fiat 124 spider roadster. Right steering wheel Nihongo recommended.

My FRS spun rod bearing 4 after 1500 miles on the recall, if you have 86/brz dont use 0w-20, use a 0w-30 or 5w-30, this will help will oil pressure and the heat, very common too get to 220F on oil temp with spirited driving
