I don't see the luxury in this van. It doesn't have good craftsmanship or luxurious materials. The Caravan of that time had the sliding side door and all of the other features this van had. I'm sure the only thing luxurious about this, when it was new, was the price tag. But why would anyone make a luxury minivan anyways? They're the kind of car you got in the 90's, when you accepted that you were in middle-age hell. Not having a passenger airbag was a feature to the men who bought this car. In their minds, they had a fantasy of their wives going through the windshield. Whoops, I totaled my car. But the Mrs. is dead now, so now I'm free to get a car I actually want. Yay

No Doug, this is Not the original luxury minivan. That title goes to the 1990 model year Chrysler Town and Country. Despite sharing the same platform as the Caravan and Voyager this was a stand alone model and not a trim level as you suggested, hence the name. In fact, according to Chrysler the T&C itself had no trim levels as it came fully equipped with only a handful of options available. Also having debuted in Spring 1989 it predates this van by some 3 months production and more importantly, was significantly more distinct and luxurious than it's counterparts. It even featured a unique chrome waterfall grill topped with a crystal pentastar hood ornament.

20: 28 Look at all those pieces of crap. I can't believe they not only made one garbage vehicle, but they had TWELVE pieces of craps they were selling. So when they failed, the US government bailed them out so they could continue to keep selling garbage and wasting more monies, just so a group of auto workers would keep their jobs and so that the fired CEO would leave with multi millions of dollars from his golden parachute severance. GM actually made an EV vehicle, the first of its kind but then DESTROYED all of them so they could keep on selling highly polluting garbage cars at the expense of the American public.

My Dad bought a brand new Pontiac transport in green back in 91. When I first saw it i was surprised about several things, 1 they didn't ask my opinion of what new car to buy (I get that, 2nd that it was a GM product (previous car was the LeSabre, 3rd how dam ugly it was (not to mention the tons of plastic all over the vehicle interior/exterior. It drove like a big shopping cart and I felt like i was driving some kind of space shuttle. He could of got a Honda or something but no, they got a Pontiac Transport. In saying that he was supporting our local town GM dealership.

I remember them driving around and thinking it looked really futuristic for a van (as a kid) and some girl I went to high school with was driving her moms van, and that was 2010. It certainly was outdated looking by then. Some friend of hers was screwing around and tried to jump in the open passenger window while the van was moving really slow and the driver girl slammed on the breaks and the jumper girl moved with the inertia and she slammed her neck all the way down from the top of the door to the mirror and fell to the ground and that's my Silhouette experience.

Doug, I'm a little disappointed that you missed a few quirks and features. The bodywork is a mix of fiberglass and plastic, the antenna is integrated within the roof panel, it also has an automatic rear ride height leveling system, with built-in compressor with a hose long enough that you could reach every tire on the van. I'm sure there are more quirks, but I thought these were important to mention. Cheers.

we had no dustbusters at that time (even now it is not common) here in central Europe and maybe this why me (and my brothers and friends) see this car as beuatiful, I mean very beautiful. On the other side, Toyota Previa was something wierd, what didnt exist on the roads, because nobody wanted to have it. Just simple difference between points of view of people what is beautifull and what is ugly

i remember this van parked in front of my house from my neighbor that lived up the block it was a strange van during its time the style improved in the 2000s i think there wasn't a door on the other side because most ppl drives up to their house on the right side the bad part about auto doors is it had no sensors alot of ppl in the 90s points the remote to the car you never had to do that
