The Volkswagen ID. 4 is a completely new fully electric compact crossover. Today I'm reviewing the ID. 4, and I'll take you on a thorough tour of it -- then I'm going to drive the ID. 4 and show you what it's like behind the wheel of Volkswagen's new EV. dogb8t: You keep referring back to the RAV4 I'm 6'6 and my work just hired a RAV4 and OMG that car suck hard, getting in the thing is like crawling back into the womb and once I've folded my self in, my knees are jammed up against the dash then when I go to turn a corner my hands hit my legs. My shoulder hits the B pillar and my head hits the roof, I tried putting the set down but it only moves down about an inch, I suppose it's ok if your a little pan head. But fark it's just too small for us normal humans!

And VW just announced they are going to 3 shift round the clock production of the ID. 4 at their plant in Germany. The US plant is scheduled to open next year which VW says will cut the price by up to 5, 000.
Some people talked about the Polestar 1, Lucid, and various other high dollar high performance EVs as potential Tesla killers when they were announced. That never was going to happen, not yet. Where Tesla is vulnerable is in the mid-market where the ID. 4 and Mach-E reside. Most car buyers are not looking for a car with the fastest acceleration or most impressive specs. If they were then mid size and compact SUVs and crossovers wouldn't be the hottest segment. Cars like this VW or Fords Mach-E, or the upcoming Nissan Ariya are targeted squarely at that market, and all are made by companies that know how to build and sell millions of desirable cars profitably.
Tesla has squandered an opportunity to develop the vehicles, manufacturing capacity, and frankly the quality or customer service attitudes to succeed in the mid-market. Tesla has squandered its resources chasing self driving tech that is unlikely to appeal to drivers, faces regulatory and liability issues, and may never succeed. They have Frittered away funds on a money losing solar business and, though powerwalls are cool, they are neither profitable nor helpful as the consume battery production the car company needs. Tesla has famously conducted no market research and simply does not care what the average consumer wants. Nobody makes money betting against Tesla but their fall from grace seems more inevitable than ever, especially given the new crop of very viable new EVs on the market or soon to arrive.
I think this missed opportunity is tragic.

Here in Germany, the new Volkswagen ID cars (ID3 especially) have been called out by multiple magazines for their quality issues. The software is a hot mess, laggy, tends to crash, even leading to cars initiating emergency stops in the middle of the Autobahn because the driver assists were acting up. Also, there tends to be overspray and badly fitted panels, as well as much cheaper plastic materials than in previous Volkswagen models and some horribly unintuitive infotainment controls. These cars were rushed into production, which is a shame considering how competitive they could be.

Cool review. Looks like a great value other than a few quirks, biggest being laggy infotainment. I have an AWD Pro S State, went on order, but once I test drive one in a few weeks I may change that. Also for such a loaded car it lacks Homelink. Seems like the infotainment needs a bunch of work. Hopefully by the time they ship it will be better. All these first gen EVs are bound to be full of bugs and quirks.

As usual very informative and fun video!
Since I don t live in the US I don t know if the following is the same, but that s what I noticed.
For heated seats you can also press and hold the upper and lower part of the temperature sliders. The upper pockets on the seats is supposed to be for the smartphone and the eyeball lights kind of look around as greeting. At least I have seen it where I live.

Gloss black plastic key. You put that thing in your pocket once and it's destroyed. Why?
Has 2 power window switches. You avoid buffeting by lowering both windows on one side. You can't do that at the same time here. Why?
A glass roof that doesn't open? Same as the Teslas, I-Pace, Audi E-Tron GT, etc. You get cooked without benefits. Why?
Someone should have lost their job.

Why all this touch overkill in current VWs? Simple: it safe them money. And VW has to safe a lot of money to compensate for their Diesel-Gate-BS. I drive a VW Polo GTI from 2019. Never ever have i been so many times at dealer, bc something is not working right. Not only do f up their ergonomics to safe money, they also put out bad qualitiy for the same reason.

So weird that Doug says 200 HP is not that great. In lost European countries non-premium SUV's with around 180HP are considered as cars with a higher performance. Hatchbacks like my car come standard with like 100HP and 130 in the upgraded editions. Also, the accelarstiontime of 8 seconds is very decent in my opinion. Guess it is completely different marked.

Unfortunately he is not letting you know that he is sitting in a pre production car with a many month old pre production software version and that most of the problems where fixed long time ago. Over the air updates like tesla is using it to improving the car software will also be used for future updates.

I find the ID 4 more practical then Mach E. More total bagage liter, more interior space, possible roof rack 75kg, semi auto tow hitch, higher tow capacity. You score Mach E 9 and ID 8 and didn't explain your thoughts in the video for this section. I'm curious to hear them.
