There's even more to this if you ask me. VAG did have the RS2, RS4, uprated S6/S8, but the only ones we got in NA were the W8 and the RS6. I'll leave the Phaeton out of this so it can go cry in the corner even if it knows it was a better Audi A8 than an actual Audi A8. It took until the tidal wave of the new V10 powered S6/S8 and R8.
Per legal rules: I'll need something fast. Like an Audi S8, with a nitrous system. Even if they only used a real S8 and 850R in that movie and faked using an E34 M5.

For those that either jokingly or seriously think Doug forgot the password to his More Doug account. He did post a video a few weeks back saying he was going on summer vacation for a couple months and was going to be posting a lot of weird old cars(think of the camper van the other day) and more of this kind of stuff here that he pre-recorded and just set a publishing schedule for them LOL. I think once he's done with vacation things will go back to normal.

I was working at Lexus in this era, and this is 100% accurate. If you were a big enough Lexus dealer to allocate a LFA to have on the showroom floor. The customers who came to look at it were there already to buy a different model. Generally, it was an older demographic as well- They were usually replacing an older model they already owned.

The r8 has had me obsessed for years. It is what the supercar is about, it wasn't very luxurious or flashy, it was a drivers car, with monstrous sound and beautiful design. The first-gen design is GENIUS, all the lineup was impregnated with its styling while now all the lineup, and also the r8, adopts the same design language

The r8 is spectacular and if I had been born 10 years earlier Id already have one. As you said, it is not comparable with a gtr, the gtr just doesn't work for nissan as the r8 did for Saudi. They need a new r8 which does the same, but now the rs models are very strong. The new r8 just doesn't tickle the same nerves

Some people have already said it, but Audi signing the deal to make the R8 Tony Stark's Car in the original Iron Man is something that can't be overlooked. It might be one of the greatest examples of effective product placement in history.
If Bruce Wayne drove an NSX, maybe it would have fared better.

Doug has the problem, that he is US American. The USA is just no car country anymore. He is lacking automotive education and is a self taught guy. This video is so utterly wrong and has logic flaws it hurts. The idea alone that car conpanies plan halo car sales improvement strategies like he layed out. Rofl

Should also consider marketing because the R8 began as Iron Man's car since the first movie came out in. 2008! What a coincidence! Audi continued to push for the R8 to remain as his main vehicle throughout the Marvel movies as the model was refreshed and improved on. You say Tony Stark, you think Audi R8.

And I'd argue that the corvette isn't actually a halo car at all. While technically the Chevrolet Corvette, I almost feel like GM WANTS to separate the corvette away from chevy. Different logo, different philosophy, different everything. Corvette by this point is functionally its own brand
