This sounds like a commercial for the WRX, a car that is nowhere near the Elantra N in terms of performance, fun to drive factor or daily use(unless you live in Alaska. With the Elantra N you can adjust everything from shocks, to engine response, to exhaust, transmission, etc. The current WRX is a joke in comparison and I' don't know any other reviewer who tried to suggest that the WRX is actually a competitor to the Elantra N. If you want fun you go Type R or N. There is nothing else that can compete with these two.
By the way I owned both a WRX STI and a Veloster N and the Veloster N was a much better car in every way.

Been dying for this review, as I'm getting one. Really think you should have gone with the automatic 8 speed wet DCT, as that is apparently the secret sauce; better launch system, NGS boost button, and lightning fast shifts. Main reason I'll choose this over the WRX: all that tuning, straight from South Korea factories. with the 10 yr/100k warranty.
And I get to terrify my wife by letting the rear skip a little around corners. She screamed bloody murder when I had a chassis reinforced Mercury Capri; she may need adult diapers for this one.

This looks absolutely badass - shame we'll never see it in the UK. I've got an i30 fastback N in the performance blue which is kind of the baby brother to this - I'm surprised it's got similar power too, but I guess it's got different competition over there.
Edit - few interesting differences on kit too. My dash isn't fully digital (manual gauges, launch control is manual, but split rear seats, overboost, and the 5 year warranty also includes on track use

I m a big advocate of Hyundai/Kia, seems like they can do no wrong. But I ve never seen a modern car literally omit EVERYTHING for the back seat passengers. No center armrest, no cup holders, no charging outlets, no magazines pockets on the seats, no phone pockets, no air vents, no heated seats, no split seats no lighting. It literally only has a bench seat. I would be embarrassed to put my friends back there.

I'm heavily considering both this car and the Jetta GLI autobahn to get into this summer coming from a 2016 mustang base 3. 7. Only issue I have is I'm in New Jersey, where EVs fetch a 5k rebate and no sales tax- that's something like 7-8k in savings over a gas car. Not sure what to do because I do want something fun but more practical/reliable than the mustang.

It's weird because I have had the car for a month, and I haven't even really noticed the issues he discussed on the EN. The only feature I am bothered by is no adaptive cruise and I would love the convenience of the turn signal camera. It's a helluva FUN car for 34K. If WRX would have had a digital dash and a DCT I would have considered it.

I was at my local dealership a few weeks back debating wether i should buy this or the fully loaded Limited Trim, and even if i lost the performance, i m glad i chose the Limited, you lose a LOT of really important features and small details that i would rather have instead of something i ll only use every once in a while on a track

He never really showed where this car shines and that is when it s already rolling, in turns, under constant heavy braking and fwd making the car that much more efficient. I guarantee on a track the Hyundai will be faster than the new WRX and I bet in the dry with the DCT just as fast when accelerating

I thought you are a neutral kind of car journalist, but this video clearly showed that you compare the hole time to another car (wrx) instead of giving a neutral look of this. And you just went on a straight road with it. I will stop watching your videos and UNSUBSRIBE.

N elantra. FWD is dissapointing.
I like the styling tho.
Great car, especially because of a manual.
Going to love Hyundai if they'll go in that direction.
Easily the biggest WRX competitor even without AWD
Rear end is exceptionally great looking. Like this sharp angles.
