MORRIE'S HERITAGE The Honda S2000 has an excellent reputation -- and everyone seems to love it. Today I'm reviewing a 2004 Honda S2000 and showing off its quirks and features to find out why everyone likes the Honda S2000 so much

I was working on the European launch of the s2000 in Germany, and one thing that stood out from Honda was how aware they were that getting the idea of a high revving engine like Vtec into the heads of the largely BMW loving journalists was going to be a tough task. These engines are designed to run at high revs and as you found that is where the power is, the engine will happily run close to the red line all day. Practically the opposite to the typical BMW delivery. To attempt to address this with the journalists, the pre-drive presentations went to great lengths to explain the nature and characteristics of the Honda engine. Even specifically comparing the ideal driving style for performance against a BMW. The journalists were all advised and driven by Honda drivers before being sent out on their own to evaluate the cars, again with great care to highlight the fact that with this car you are supposed and safe to keep the engine at high revs. Guess what? Pretty much every German journalist managed to ignore every bit of advice and tried to drive the s2000 exactly how they would a BMW They never got to experience the car as it should be driven and all gave it bad reviews for being slow and rubbishMost of the other European journalists took the directions on board and most seemed to really enjoy the car. I felt sorry for the heads of the launch team, I dont really see what more they could have done to try to get the German press to be more open minded; it was almost laughable listening to the comments from those guys after their test drives, like they had listened to zero of the presentation and guidance and just drove the cars their usual way.

He seems to be affraid of revving Honda engines and staying in VTEC, as if he's traumatized by memories of other cars that break down if you rev them high to often. He's. cute (for lack of better words) This where the drive it like you stole it applies. Don't be afraid to redline it and downshift when you want power. It's a high revving 4 banger, of course you're not going to light up the pavement at 3000 RPM, because it is designed to stay in the high range when driven fast, while still being economical if you drive slow or get stuck in traffic. Best of both worlds if you know what you're doing. For spirited driving, who needs torque at 3, 000 rpm if you'll never drop below 6, 000 rpm? Think of a motorcycle engine, that's the idea behind it. The original S600 was literally powered by a 600cc bike motor, and it even had a chain driven rear axle if I'm not mistaken.

I had my 05 s2000 for 10 years now. and i got married. My wife wants me to sell it for a more practical car. but i shut her up by buying her a le us rx350. Now i can keep this car until it breaks down really. Im still in love and i still get excited getting back in my car. Thats why i love this car. Driving is FUN. Not just a source of transportation, but feels more like a lunch break at work if you know what i mean.

Too bad you reviewed an AP2. The AP1 is more interesting. 1) its digital cluster looks almost exactly like a late-80s/early-90s F1 car (as this car pays homage to the McLaren Honda F1s of the time) - something you'd notice if you grew up playing MicroProse's F1 Grand Prix. 2) 9krpm red line screams more, feels more visceral. 3) oversteer bias makes it quicker around corners, if you can control it.

Another thing is with the top down it doesnt bother you. Like a mustang. Or vette. Or just about any drop top. They will all become very annoying very quickly. The S the wind flows over top really nice. Also the top is the fastest there is. To put up or down. And again. He totally missed the other storage compartment. Its obviously still a secret to Doug.

This engine is probably a vtec, there's a legend in Brazil that those kinds of engine rotates infinitely. Of course it is just a joke, but it's known by its low torque at low rotation and it's high rotation capacity. Some guys have insanes Honda civic with 500hp or more after add turbo on it.

Doug the storage next to your right elbow the top lifts up. You totally missed it. I have a 2000 model year, it revs to 9000 rpm and blows BRZs away. As far as cool factor gos I get more comments on my S than I do on my 911. Oh, who cares about a passenger

It's a momentum car. You have to keep it on song to have it perform. You also missed the secret compartment for storage in the interior. You knew it had a low torque figure, but keep complaining about it. Redline, shift, repeat.

Hes not driving it right they get it good when u keep in vtec my favorite is the 00-03 obviously just with intake and exhaust headers they actually open up a lot its very surprising 3 bolt ons makes a huge difference

damn the N/A side about this car is absolutely beautiful but I want to slap a turbo on it but I feel as if I slap a turbo on it Im ruining the true beauty of the car. and hurting its name but I would love more power
