AUTOMOBILI LIMITED The 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL was the flagship model of the S-Class model range in 1991. Today I'm reviewing this W126 Mercedes 560SEL to show you what you got when you spent the equivalent of 150, 000 on a Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the 1980s or early 1990s

The biggest folly Mercedes did was to buy Chrysler in 1991. It was the corruption of Pure Mercedes Manufacturing Philosophy. it brought down the name and quality. They sold Chrysler in 2007. but the damage was done. Mercedes never recovered. The public, especially those who were die-hard Mercedes buyers of Class Cars, lost faith. Quite a lot went to BMW. me too. I bought my first in 1963, age 21 and the last in 1986 that I kept for almost 6 years. The ultimate luxury was The Pullman. It was expensive to buy and even more expensive to maintain. It was 'the White Elephant' of the Maharaja. Due to its being Hydraulic, tubes used get hard and brittle and changing them was a nightmare. Like the Rolls Royce and Bentley, the Classical ones are far too expensive to buy and even more expensive to maintain. Additionally, people who bought Pullman and Rolls Royce Phantoms have graduated to Helicopters and Private Jets. Mercedes 550 is neither here nor there. 600 / V12 is still a great great car to own and drive, especially the 6. 3 AMG SLR. the problem is that except on German Autobahn, there is no place to drive. They are horribly expensive and equally horribly expensive to maintain. they also eat tyres. and they are expensive. there is no other car that is like them.

Do you really think Mercedes couldn't made this rear 560 sel emblem separately? Hahaha today they put it all together by the stencil but you're probably still thinking it's more difficult today. It was connected with Bruno Sacco vision to add the additional strip below. What is more it was more practical gives you guarantee that every single letter/number will be replace perfectly, you don't have to pay for every single sign. By the way with today's Mercedes quality you have to replace all the rear trunk lid so nobody care about emblems. And finally this solution was better because it wasn't possible to make for example faggot word from this single letter. Man it doesn't best testify to you if you trying to find some weaknesses here. Here in Europe we have have a lot of fun with you

Sorry Doug there are more key features then you thought. This car has two separate keys but not one for the ignition and one for the doors and the trunk. There is a key for everyday use for all locks in the car. The trunk can be locked with the ordinary key so that it remains locked but the door locks will work as usual. And the second key (with rounded plastic on it) operates the door locks and the ignition lock but not opens the trunk and the glovebox. So you can leave the car in the workshop with the service key and the personnel will not be able to check out your stuff.

Installed a cellphone in one of these when it was brand new. I had NO idea it was so expensive. In any case I was always really careful with all the high-end vehicles I worked on. Getting the cables routed through the super tight carpet was nearly impossible. The power back seats made it so hard, it took all day to route the cables from the front to the trunk. That car was really built well. I remember the nasty buzzer when the car was started. The buzzer was in many models of Mercedes. The buzzer made it feel like the operation of the vehicle posed some kind of safety hazard.

While Toyotas in the 80s already had touch screens with navigation, back up cameras, ultrasonic self cleaning power mirrors, remote controlled keys, parking sonars, rear passenger TV, automatic AC, nice stereos, electronically modulated suspension, Mercedes had this. I guess Germans were smart enough to take advantage of the fact that people were going to buy their cars anyway, and didn't add any innovative technologies until they absolutely had to.

The characters of the rear batch were made from metal and indeed underlined to keep them into one peace. They are not sticked, they are fixed mechanical with two long pins into wholes in the decklid. But in modern cars the single characters won't be sticked individually, they come together sticked right in position on a foil, which will be removed, after applying the batch to the car.

That car is not fast Doug? It will go 160mph. I call that fast. And by the way, it weighs over 4000lbs, and the engine horsepower is not 300. For these you have to find out first whether it is a car sold in the US by a dealer at the time or if it is a Euro spec car, though in that case it wouldn't be a 560 as they didn't sell those in Europe, only up to the 500.

this video triggers meeverything makes perfect sensedriver mirror is manual because driver can adjust from his seat as opposed to passenger mirror, no motor, less weight less costcabin light controlled from driver's seat, you don't have to extend your body, even today's cars fail at that, seatbelt sign is universal airplane style

I usually enjoy Doug's reviews but I'm sorry, this is a pretty bad review. Some assumptions and supposed reasons for why certain things are the way they are and some things could've been explained after reading the manual. And that Doug Score doesn't make much sense either. A bit of a shame, this car deserved better.

In 2001 I bought a 1981 500SEL (the first year of this model) for 800 and I absolutely loved that car You just feel regal driving it around. Ten years older than the car in this video, but a lot of the interior was the same. So this video was really nostalgic for me. I can practically smell the leather seats
