Manual transmission in these cars: Porsche set up the 9A1 engine electronics to record the number of times the engine has reached and past redline, and the degree of severity is listed in the range of 1 through 6, 1 being just barely past redline and 6 being holy shit! . This readout, called a DME readout in Porscheworld, is something that is checked and determines the value of the car at resale/trade in. Most Caymans that haven't been tracked have a few over revs, usually just into 1 or 2 territory. A car that has been tracked usually has some 3's thrown into the mix, and you'll want to determine how often the PDK fluids [plural. ] have been changed.
But here's the kicker: The difference in the number of over revs on cars with the PDK versus the manual is NIGHT AND DAY. PDK generally does a good job of preventing bad over revs, but the manual has no such protection and manuals that have been tracked? There have been plenty of money shifts with these cars! The shifter of the manual is outstanding, but that doesn't mean the driver is and DME readouts of manual transmission Caymans have a TON more over revs than the PDK version.
You have to realize that Porsche pushes their engines to a further level than other companies are comfortable with, and while the 9A1 engine is very reliable and strongly built, even the '14 Cayman S PDK that I have in my garage not 10 feet away from where I am typing this has a 7800 rpm redline for 325 hp. Porsche realized right away that if they installed a 500 hp engine in the same basic chassis and gave it a manual transmission that these things would be blowing up on tracks all over the world due to missed shifts and this would NOT be good publicity.
PDK literally reads your mind; I miss a clutch but this thing is perfect. And it makes the car way faster, while protecting your investment: Win-Win. I don't agree with Doug, the GT4RS should stay with PDK.
[PS: Weird thing about all this: Porsche lists the curb weight of my 325 hp car as 2976 pounds, which is why it can reach 100 mph in 10. 0 seconds with that much power. The GT4RS is supposed to weigh over 3200 pounds yet has all this lightweight equipment? ]

When I saw Henry Catchpole drive it I went back. put my headphones in and just revelled in the glory of that engine + exhaust sound. This is what I wrote
I ve always maintained that the 911 is a triumph of dogged determination over physics but the Cayman is what happens when you invest that determination and engineering brilliance on a proper foundation.
The new 718 GT4RS is the best love letter to enthusiasts and a swan song as ICE cars sunset
Just listen to the sound when the engine goes past 8000 to the 9000 redline. It s mental. Almost a wail. a shriek. a controlled fury of a steed egging you on to push its limits.

This will come as Manual but with a different Name. Andreas Preuninger explained this to German Car Journalists.
Regarding Mark-Ups - Its incredible how this is legal in some Countries. It's not in Germany and i hope more Car Companies also enforce this in different Countries.
For those curious about why Porsche still makes such Driver's Cars & Manuals I suggest everyone interested should search Interviews with Andreas Preuninger, he's also been on a few Podcasts in both german and english, def recommend!

You're right Doug, the Cayman is the best handling sportscar. The ultimate model is the Cayman S because it has the freedom in handling you want. Downforce, wide tires and low ride heights are great, but it focusses the car too much. You would want a tossable car with 350hp, and thats why it's the best. The balance sits so godly good on the rear axle, yet it has just enough grip on the front that you can oversteer and compensate in a fast corner.

Man that thing sounds insane. That's pretty dope. Also they shouldn't have put water over that cap. Because people re gonna actually add water, probably tap water and slowly ruin the engine. I would hope that some people will have enough common sense to know to put coolant in there rather then water. At the very least I hope they'd use distilled water.

Most people find their dream car as a kid, but ever since this was teased and released I knew it was mine. I always thought the cayman was the best Porsche, and now it really is. I will have this car one day, working on making it happen. Might take 10 years but until then my Miata will do lol

This lighter yellow the car sometimes has if he uses the static camera gives me such 2000s fast and furious or nfs vibes. Together with the rims and the spoiler it really could be in a fast and furious 1 race despite the fact the car is a brand new 2022

WOW! The most amazing thing in this entire video is at 10: 12 mark, I can't remember the last time I saw a bee! I remember dropping an ice cream cone as a kid and in two minutes there would be six or more bees on it, and now sadly there are NONE! : (

Can t wait to see a comparison between this car and the upcoming Chevy C8 Corvette Z06. They are about the same price. However, the Corvette has much more torque and power but this car is much lighter. Both should be absolute track monsters.
