The 2001 BMW 750iL is a special car -- and I think it's the most beautiful luxury sedan ever. Today I'm reviewing the 2001 BMW 7 Series to show you why I think the E38 7 Series is such a great car. Captain Falls a Lot ATP, PIC: I didn't watch the whole works, as I am a true diehard fan of Bimmers. I purchased brand new, e39 (2001 530i) I still own it, and it runs, drives and handles like a charm and it has 275k miles. Now, I don't know if you pointed it out or not, but the steering wheel, mirrors, driver's seat, all presets of the radio and climate are all set to each master key. There are 3 memory buttons on the door, if 3 drivers share the same key, those 3 drivers can have the steering wheel, mirrors, driver's seat stored in the computer. The central locking system and the alarm system, they are not just some alarm that will go off if any 1 of 4 doors opens by an intruder, but the Bimmer also has tilt sensing should the car get put on a tow truck and if the driver opened all windows and moonroof the presses the lock button on the key, if someone sticks their hand inside the car will cause the alarm to go off due to motion sensors inside the car and the doors will NOT unlock even if you reach and pull on the inside door handle and it will not unlock if you reach inside and push the unlock button. You must use the key fob. Now, the trunk, you do NOT need the key to open the trunk, if you place your hand so your fingers go behind the lid as if you were going to open it, you should feel a button and if it is pressed, the trunk lid will open provided all 4 doors are unlocked. Press and hold unlock button for a few seconds and all windows and moonroof will open, stick the key in the driver's door, turn clockwise and hold it there and all will close and alarm will activate.

That car doesnt have all the options that were available on it, at least the were on the European version so some of the things dont make sense, like the boot lid. which could be powered, so you press the right key fob button and it opens or closes automatically. The infotainment system is the old version, 2001 cars had another option which was a larger screen. Spec wise this car is in the mid range for a 750iL at best. as it doesnt have most of the toys like the comms pack in the rear seats

I remember when my late father bought exactly the same color one, without the massage feature, after he was finally able to let go his Peugeot 604 GTI limo. What a switch. he literally had to drive it to the corner store for milk and newspaper instead of walking or taking the vespa. He loved driving it and the BMW 750 iL had numerous reasons to always wanting taking it for a spin. I can still hear the V12 roar. what a pleasure.

How come this 2001 E38 has older monitor unit? Should be 16: 9 already. There is a box for small stuff under phone. All this phone+handrest can be replaced with just a wide handrest with a bigger box inside. Not the best seats: could be sport seats from Recaro (M-pack) or comfort seats with tables for passengers on the back.

I saw one of these a few weeks ago, and I have to agree with you, it is a beautiful luxury sedan. I would love to own one myself, but finding a good example is very difficult, and the parts are not so easily available. It's definitely a modern classic that will be worth a great deal 25 to 30 years from now.

. the steering wheel for one, always looked to me as true business person steering wheel. You would grip this thing driving 150mph down the autobahn to go fire your vice president of communications because he has been caught stealing paper clips. This was a serious serious steering wheel.

Everyone loves to hate on Doug - he is so pretentious - it is hilarious, and I'm sure that is intentional at this point. Maybe not at first, but now I'm sure that he is like - Screw it - it's trademark Doug D. There is a lot to be said for being an original. :)

Wow, I didn't realize BMW had a thing for weird trunk closing mechanisms. You can't touch the trunk hatch manually or else you will break the motor in some newer models, which I find hideous. This BMW is definitely the best looking before the facelift that followed.

Wow. In just a few days I learned a car wizard thought a DCT focus was a good car to buy and a decent looking but still somewhat bland BMW is the most beautiful 4 door ever made. what's next, a 1987 5. 0 Mustang is the fastest car ever made?

You still need to remember you are reviewing a 18 yr old car. Just saying. Think about it being from that era, not based on what is available now. You also forgot to share images on the headlamps & the sun/moon roof.
