This Will Save Your Life in a Car Accident 351WINCHESTER: My nephew hit a tree at a high rate of speed back in March. It was just around the corner from our home. I heard the crash & got there in less than a minute. Engine compt. was on fire & could not see inside the car. An off duty emt guy saw the accident & told me the driver was trapped inside. Doors locked I jumped into my blazer, hauled home & grabbed 2 fire extinguishers. Got back in less than a minute, passed one off to the emt guy & I stuck my nozzle into the fire & let it rip. It ran dry in about 5 seconds I was so mad I threw it as far as I could. Tried to get the neighbors garden hose, but it was too short. The fd was on the way & they were close as they were on another call. At the time I had no idea as to who was inside. When the police got there they pulled me back so the fd could do their thing & I noticed it was an Audi. I told the police I think that is my nephews car. They ran the tag & yes it was. He darn near died from his liver bleeding out & other injuries. He ended us loosing both legs due to the fire. Please pray for him.

Great advice as always Scotty ALWAYS GET CHECKED OUT IN THE HOSPITAL Had an accident-guy behind ran into me and shoved me into the car in front. Totalled my car. Police got an ambulance and send me to the hospital even though I felt okay. They checked me out in the emergency room. Sent me for X-rays. Feel okay and Im getting set to leave. They freaked out and sent me for a second set of X-rays. Wouldnt tell me why, but rushed me to get them done quickly. They explained to me later that there was a shadow on my X-ray that made them think my aorta was injured and leaking, causing internal bleeding. Turned out it was just a bad X-ray. They could have needed to do emergency surgery. Scared me silly. It is very common to have this injury due to seat belts in modern cars, I was told. The belts can injure you. You wont even know it. You may not show any external injuries and feel okay after an accident, but always get checked out anyway.

Scotty is spot on about possible internal injuries. Thank God, I havent had to experience it myself, but my cousin did. She came to a three-way intersection at a rather high speed and slammed on the brakes. Was not wearing her seatbelt, so the result was that the car came to a screeching halt, but she ended up wedged between the steering wheel and the window (or the A-pillar. After freeing herself she sensed something was wrong with her. So, thankfully, her professional instincts kicked in (shes a nurse at a major hospital. So, she moved the car to a safe spot, parked it, then jumped in a cab and went to the hospital she works in (which was the closest to that location since she was just heading home from there. And after some tests and scans, they realized she had ruptured her spleen and was bleeding internally. Needless to say, she ended up on the surgery table and now shes living without a spleen.

Hey scotty i love your videos. I have a question i recently put led bulbs in my brake lights and worked perfectly then a few days later i got a abs, check engine, brake, and vehicle stability control icon on my cluster. I took it to the dealership and they got rid of all the icons then told me its because i have an open circuit in my stop lamp switch and said it MIGHT be because the led bulbs i recently put in for the brake lights and told me to put the factory brake bulbs back in (which i did right after) then that night my nights lights in my tailights stopped working but my brake lights still work, then i went back to dealers the next day then they said they think the led bulbs caused the open circuit. What do you think? The problem i have is with my 2016 toyota camry le 2. 5 i-4. Do you think the led bulbs caused the open circuit to my stop lamp switch?

I watch way too many true crime shows on TV. Back in the day, before cell phones, people would have to walk, sometimes long distances, for help if they got in a wreck. Ive seen on some of these true crime shows where a nice man would offer a woman a ride to a phone after she got into a car accident. She would get into his car, and he would rape and murder her. Thanks to cell phones, us ladies no longer have to worry about this. We can just call the police, a wrecker, AAA, or friend or relative, without having to walk for miles or accept rides from questionable strangers.

I work for a federal agency and all of our fleet vehicles have to have an OSHA approved first-aid kit - which includes a blood-borne pathogen kit and a trauma pack - at least one reflective safety vest, roadside flares, and an extinguisher, which is tested annually. All of the equipment is inspected monthly, along with the vehicle itself. In fact, you may remember in 2017 Kiddie recalled certain smaller extinguishers because the plastic components could fail in an emergency. I think we replaced 3. the rest were Amerex.

Everyone NEEDS a bright light in their car that can run on its own(not reliant on vehicles power. I had a brake line go on the highway and had to pull off to the side. Turned off my car since I smelled burning and didnt realize it was the brakes, flipped on the hazards and then the battery died. On the side of the highway with no power is absolutely frightening. I put a light on my spoiler and that had to do until the tow truck came. Always keep a spare light I suggest a car starter with a built in light.

the mini flare is a good idea a man near by my home went off the hihway on the mountain by my house he was on his motorcycle and he went into a deep brush filled hollow along the road in a rain storm his wife reported him missing and a power line crew found him about 60 days later maybe if he had a phone or even a flare he could have got help before he died it was during a bad rain storm and his wife traveled that road each day to work and back. the flare is a great tool to get help

Thanks Scotty for the life saving information. In Florida each year, people drown in their cars when overturned in canals. The glass breaker and seat belt cutter are essential to extract yourself, great gadget to have on board. Another good thing to have is a checklist of what to do once you find yourself in an accident. I made a checklist for my 16 year old daughter like what info to share, who to contact, and name of repair shop to provide towers if necessary.

When using a window punch to break glass, you do not want to swing it into the window. You can really cut yourself bad. Those punches will also only work on tempered glass. Windshields, sunroofs, moon roofs, and some rear windows it will not work on as those will be safety laminated glass. I work as a firefighter, and I have broken my fair share of windows working on car accident scenes. Also, most car crashes do not erupt into flame. That is Hollywood.
