Heres Why Car Dealerships are Stupid James: The Auto industry is missing a trick here - so many people are fed up to their high teeth with those overcomplicated cars. There's a niche for that new 'old' car that can provide a well designed and engineered car -like back in the good old days Give the people a good, basic, simple means of transportation minus the over engineered electronics and those cheap crappy plastic Chinese components and parts. How about it?

3: 15 108k miles is usually not that bad for those Toyota timing belts (Toyota/Lexus specifies 90k mile intervals) however 29 years old is WAY too long to run an original timing belt regardless of mileage I'm impressed the belt survived that longI changed the one on our GS400 that had 105k (it was 14 years old at the time) and the belt had no noticeable cracks or defects. But if you drive so few miles per year, the belt is still being subjected to the heat cycles of the engine. You have to take that into account, not just mileage Unfortunately a lot of people don't understand that. It's a shame because those are great engines and it could have otherwise gone a lot longer

I talked to a lady who said she bought a basketball hoop backboard for her son and after a year it broke. The box said Lifetime Warranty. She called the company and the name of the company is Lifetime. What a crooked thing to do Sure it has a Lifetime Warranty - as dictated by the company named Lifetime. Of course the warranty didn't cover her problem. PHUCK warranties. I never sign up for them because if the product is defective, there are laws already in place to support people and you can simply get a lawyer to take care of an serious issues if it's that big of a deal to begin with.

I had a 2003 Honda Accord and it had that whining noise from the power steering pump. I saw a video and it said Honda was recalling the car to fix the issue, the problem was an o-ring in the discharge side of the pump. They said over time the o-ring was beginning to leak (material issue) and air would get it the system and this caused the noise issue. I went to a dealership brought a new O-ring for 2 replaced the bad O-ring and sure enough the noise went away. So, check the pump for leaking O-rings or replacement see if that solves your problem.

Regarding the question about the 1991 Lexus, that engine is non interference so the values should not hit the Pistons when the timing belt breaks. However, I believe the timing belt runs the water pump. So if the belt broke due to age, the engine could have been damaged due to overheating (water pump would have broke and/or was the cause of the belt breaking) not from values hitting Pistons. I use to have a 90 LS, so my aim is true.

Still wondering why in the history of internal combustion engines we havent worked out a best engine and just made it readily available and inexpensive. Or several bests for the types of vehicles. All the tinkering engineers do and mileage and reliability isnt really advancing. Ways to keep you tied to the dealership and EPA seems to be where innovation is focused.

Scotty, I hate you the first time I saw your video but after awhile watching you makes me a big fan, you really had a lot of sense with regard to automobile. Can you recommend me to buy a Ford Ranger with a 2. 0 turbo diesel engine with a 10 speed automatic or a 6speed manual that was in the Philippines market?

I service my toyota at the lexus dealer I found their prices are the same as toyota and about the same as my local shop I used to use. I always compare prices and theirs are right on the money. They also take pics if they say you need something it's nice to see these days. Plus the perks and loaners are nice.

Hey Scotty. I have a 99 F150 with an 5. 4 2 valve with around 300, 000 km. I dont know if the previous owner did an transmission fluid change. My question is, would it be safe to do a fluid and filter change? The transmission shifts great at the moment and want to keep it that way. Love your videos: )

Extended warranties are worth it from the dealership as the electronics in ALL new cars is very expensive. And 2k of warranty after the factory expires after 40k or so miles is valuable when one component is easily 1, 500. If you plan on only keeping 3-5 years than do not buy.
