My dad bought a lemon Taurus in 2002. It would accelerate uncontrollably when on a decline, and there happens to be railroad tracks right around the corner on a decline. Without fail that Taurus would suddenly rev up to 5000 or 6000rpm when approaching that crossing. I drove it too and when there was a train comingabject terror. He got the Governors office of consumer affairs involved and got every penny he spent back. Ford has been putting spark plugs in engines a hundred years. If theres one thing they shouldnt have had problems with. looking back on plugs blowing out of the heads makes me laugh uncontrollably. The two piece spark plugs breaking off when you try to remove them. Eco boost burning 3 1/2qt. oil. Makes me want popcorn for some reason.

former owner (my parents owned two [2011 and 2014] and i have a lot of experience with it) here: the 3. 6 (non-ecoboost) V-6 isnt a bad engine, however, i would avoid the explorer in general, the electronics had issues, and then the transmission went with 160000km (100 000 mi. honestly, when it was time to move on we traded to get a 2018 Buick Envision, and as much as the Ecotec 4-cyl isn't great, that vehicle has been doing my parents a lot better in terms of reliability. im just glad i dont have any real boost issues with my 2007 Grand Prix GT (supercharged 3. 8) nor will i probably have any.

A hypothetical example of a clueless mechanic: My repair shop has replaced my car battery 4 times in 6 months 'cause it goes dead. Takes car to Scotty: It's not your battery, it's the alternator LOL. Like the turbo, why would the turbo be bad when the boost recovers after restarting the car Daaa. Oh, i watched another Scotty video where he troubleshoots the intermittent turbo boost issue. I do feel sorry for those lil 4 bangers being whipped to put out more horses than they should. If the bottom end was built as if it was gonna be a diesel, the motor would last a long time

Hi Scotty I'm of the opinion that engine is too small for an SUV. I bought a new vehicle [new to me] about 4 months ago. Man, I had a TOUGH time finding one WITHOUT a turbo. I wish carmakers would realize not EVERYBODY wants or needs a turbo But I'm old school, no replacement for displacement Found me a V-6 with almost 300 hp, moves out quite smartly Gas mileage? I'm retired so doesn't matter to me as much as it used to. But with a six-speed auto I average about 18-19 mpg. Good 'nuff Thanks buddy

Scotty need your advice. Does this sound right or am I getting overcharged? I have a 2008 Honda Oddessy. Was going to change trany fluid. Video shows it takes 3. 6 qts. No filter. Always change crush washer. Went to dealership. They wanted 9. 50 a quart and 4. 73 for a crush washer. I couldn't believe it & didn't buy it. How can a crush washer be 4. 73 & 9. 50 a quart. Parts guy said u gotta use Honda fluid & washer. Is this true? Seems like dealer is gouging? Your advice please.

Remember Ford early Ecoboost had issue with valve carbonization and oil issue through PVC system causing the valves #2 and #3 to really carbonize. My newer 2019 F-150 with updated v6 3. 3 has two injector points to keep back of valves clean from oil vapors from PVC system and direct injection both before and after valve system. Mine is a non-turbo, thank goodness. Better design. Later 2. 0 Ecoboost adapted this design. Had it in my 2018 Edge. Worked good.

Turbo 4 cyl, Ford. it will be lucky to last to 100K miles. Those turbos have a typical lifespan of 40-60K miles (as he said, already on 3rd or 4th turbo, and the engine cannot handle boost well so they typically die at 80-100K. so at 65K miles it is on borrowed time. Meanwhile my 2006 Silverado (with V8 and manual transmission) at 180K miles is all original, burns no oil, and still has a lot of life left.

I am sad to say, I've always have grown with the Ford brand and Ford vehicles in my house. My favorite is the new Ford Expedition, but, considering this type of engine or the V6 EcoBoost, I'll consider moving to other brand with naturally aspirated engines or V8. Like GM, or Cadillac. Or to not make Scotty mad, maybe I'll buy a Toyota Sequoia. heheheheehehe.

The 2. 0L ecoboost includes two generations already. In 2015 the new version (the twin-scroll 2. 0 ecoboost) shares almost no parts with the predecessor. The 2. 0L engine does not have huge problem. The main subject is an exhaust manifold itself. The main disadvantage is that the exhaust manifold is one unit with the turbo, which makes the replacement expensive.
