You mention how Toyota turns lights on for Check engine. Subaru scared the living crud out of me. I forget what the code was for, but it flashed the brake light in addition to turning on the stability control warning lamp, the ABS lamp, flashing the cruise indiator, and I forget what else. Thankfully it was 11: 30 at night on an empty highway so I slammed on the brakes to test them and the ABS which still worked. Knowing it was safe to proceed, I went to a gas station and googled the situation and found out Subaru does that for any fault code. FYI the fault was caused by a combination of tech (put the wrong oil in) and driver (not challenging the service department) error. They put in 0W20 instead of 5W30 as they switched me to synthetic (they had a coupon for synthetic with the spark plug service. I just scheduled the next service a week or two early and got it corrected (also didn't mind having the timing belt done a little early. They also switched me back to conventional (likely to prevent them from seeing synthetic and grabbing the wrong weight again.

Scotty? Or any mechanics out there? I have a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder XE that was running just fine a few days ago but wouldn't start up again and hasn't since. I just replaced the battery 6 months ago and it has a full tank of new gas and oil, proper types for the vehicle. I had one mechanic come and say it was either the timing chain or timing belt. I also checked the fuel filter, pump and fuse and they all work. The battery is good and it had 0 problems in over a year of driving and just quits randomly one day and won't start. The ignition doesn't seem to be running slow or fast, it just won't start. Could it be something to do with a certain fuel related spark plug? Also, the person who owned it before me was a mechanic and took very good care of it. Any brief explanation on what could be wrong with it in your opinion? Thanks

Here's a twist, I have an appointment to rotate the tires on a 2001 Tundra 4. 7L New exhaust and OE oxygen sensors. She is a new Widow and doesn't drive as hard as her husband did. Their old Mechanic used to treat him good, but, when the Check engine light came on, he charged here 70 to give her a list of repairs totaling 1100. The other Day I fixed Two of four things for NOTHING Cleared the Check Engine, light and told her to drive harder and the light hasn't come back on. Back to the point---I just ordered an OE PVC valve and Grommet from a Lexus dealer, on Ebay, for only 15 delivered. Cheapest set--OE or not. So, her 1100 LIST is going to cost her 85 total. Some things just make me Happy.

Hey Scotty, I have a question hopefully you can help me. I have a 2010 Honda Pilot, it was making a knocking noise by the engine on the passenger side, I replace the water pump, timing belt, couple pulleys and the hydrolic tensioner(cylinder. I was told that the hydrolic tensioner was making the noise because it was leaking fluid, but I decided to replace everything. The thing is that, there is still a similar noise and now I have no idea what is the problem now. I hope you can help me, or if someone else could help me I would sincerely appreciate it.

Hey Scotty, I have a 07 Camry with 200, 000 miles. The engine was recently replaced with JDM engine. It runs almost like new but every once in a while all of these happens: 1)The tachometer vibrates like crazy 2)The speedometer falls to zero even when Running fast. 3) The engine & abs warning lights goes on the display panel. 4)The air from the AC looses coolness. All these happens for about 4 minutes & then everything goes back to normal & then the cycle happens again. What do you think is wrong with it?

Hi Scotty, great show! I have a 2011 Chevy Impala with 190, 000 miles it still runs great although it's on its second transmission. The first one disintegrated in front of my house at 120, 000 miles. The latest annoying thing is when ever you unlock the car, there is a rapid thumping noise in the dash. It sounds like the vent is opening and shutting. It always stops after 30 seconds. Just got a check engine light two days ago with P0440 code. What should I do? Should I replace the Vacuum Switching Valve? Or is there something else I need to looking into? I would appreciate your help very much.

3: 22 That's what I've been saying all the time. A lot of Chinese products are great as well. The cheap crappy ones are made because the manufacturers are asked by the companies, either American or Chinese to make them that way. A 2 wrench in 1990 is going to cost 20 in 2020 to be of the same quality. You can't expect dollar results from penny input.

If you want non-Chinese wheels, Borbet are made in Germany and South Africa and also have a plant in Alabama. But as Scotty says, don't buy new. I got a set in reasonable condition (finish a bit scruffy, but no dents/dings) for my Camry from a junk yard for 100. Spent 200 on having them powder coated and they are as good as new.
