V6 engine vs 4 cylinder engine, which is better

V6 engine vs 4 cylinder engine, which is better Mark: I always prefer the V6 engine, over the four-cylinder engine for smoothness, power and also, to keep vehicle speeds low in the city, around town, in the suburbs and communities, known as the metropolitan area and which is mostly on residential and commercial, major and non-major streets and to keep vehicle speeds high in the country and on road trips, which is mostly two-lane, non-divided and four-lane, divided highways and metropolitan and countryside freeways. For this purpose, what is a great vehicle for this pleasure, a 2017 Honda Odyssey EX-L eight passenger minivan or a 2009 Lexus ES 350 sedan? They both have the 3. 5 L V6 engine, but the Odyssey has 248 horsepower and the regular six-speed automatic transmission and the ES 350 has 272 horsepower and the six-speed automatic transmission with sport mode (manual-shift. Also, they both have the same gas mileage and they are both FWD (front-wheel-drive, but I would prefer to go for the ES 350, over the Odyssey, because it has more power and it is a lot faster and more smoother. Do you have any more suggestions on other reliable and fuel-efficient vehicles? If so, please comment below. Thank you very much for your consideration.

One thing I prefer a V6 takes off better only thing with 4 cyl engines they get better gas mileage. I have owned cars since 17 my first car was a 4 cylinder was kind of disappointed couldn't get a V6 after all the 4 cylinder wasn't real bad. I have a 2015 Rogue with a 4 cylinder and Jatco CVT the little truck takes off like a jet one day I was a red light in front of Walmart by a Mercedes when slightly press my foot down on the gas the Rogue took off faster than the Mercedes Benz as other cars were still trying pick up speed. Nissan timing chains don't ever need changing unless has some wear and tear on them not sure with Toyota and Honda design their timing chains be like Nissan, knew some Hondas did need timing chain replacements. I used like Saabs every time think of Saab in my mind see Jerry Seinfeld driving his on Seinfeld. Don't tell me nothing about GEO we had a piece of junk 1992 GEO Metro that thing was the worst car ever everytime it would rain hard never start never will forget on a raining cold day at school that thing wouldn't start my mother kept cranking that thing over and over we have to call someone to jump start the thing by the time after two whole hours that thing finally started up guess was by the Grace of God get out of their. The Ford Ranger are some solid trucks not sure with 02-05 if they had minimal problems. Those Cougars were some awesome cars as the Mustang so he got himself something love those classic cars I enjoyed this video while sitting typing this comment. Gotta love u Scotty.

4 cylinder engines are good I have a 1998 Saturn SL2 it has a 1. 4L twin cam 4 cylinder engine it runs great I get really good gas mileage, but I say never get a turbocharged engine if you plan on keeping the car for a long time a friend of mine got a Honda Civic only had 40, 000 miles on it when he bought it he put a turbo charger on it an he blew a hole in the side of the engine he said it was great tell he put the turbo charger on it 1998 Honda Civic with only 40, 000 miles on it yah a good car with out a turbo charger it had 51, 000 miles when he blew a hole in it, the 1998 Honda belong to an older lady she bought it brand new an she passed away, her daughter put it in the garage an it never been drove tell my friend bought it, it's a shame he blew a hole in the engine it was a great car

Scotty, it's not always true that less moving parts means the engine will last longer. You have to take engine design, hp, tq, car weight and wind coefficients! You take a 3500 pound car with a 4 cylinder engine won't last as long as a 6 cylinder engine. A 2500 pound car probably with a 4 will last longer. And as far as 8 cylinder goes. You and I both know why someone buys a 8 cylinder car like that mustang. Reliability is always terrible and it's not the cars fault. Put that same engine in a pick-up or sedan and it will run forever.

I agree with Scotty about the V6 rather than the 4 cylinder but I think he could have pointed out that it also depends upon the weight of the vehicle. A heavy vehicle with a 4 cylinder, even a turbo 4 cylinder, is going to give you problems long before the V6. Btw. the best six cylinder engines IMHO is the in-line six cylinder overhead valve (not overhead cam. Lots of examples of in-line sixes that were great engines. Even some flat head in-line sixes. Also good engines.

I ve owned 5 cars and the only 4 cylinder I ve owned was a 2008 Chevy Malibu and I had to replace that 4 cylinder engine at 133, 000 miles. The other cars I owned had V6s and it was the Buick Regal, Toyota Avalon, Honda Accord and the Chrysler 300 I currently own now. All my previous V6 cars got to over 300, 000 miles with no big issues. I got the most miles out of the Buick Regal. My 2009 Chrysler 300 3. 5L is at 189, 000 right now

The V6 or V3 or V4 Hahahaha doesn t matter because modern technology can make them work. In fact, the new Ford 1. 5L 3 cylinder ecoboost produces 200hp! The only selling factor is the SOUND it makes. This is the reason why the 4 cylinder turbo boxer engine of Porsche 718 didn t sell as much. Sound is a BIG factor! So thinking of downsizing? Why not turbocharge a small scale 1. 5 6 cylinder engine?

200-300 HP is more than enough for everyday driving for Sedans and Coupes. Now when we get to SUVs CUVs Pick up trucks etc your gonna need quite the heft if your looking for smooth fast sailing, this is when Turbos are usually implemented, but like Scotty said, always go for non turbo, and always go for I4 or V4 vs. other engines if you want a car that will survive for almost forever.

Hey Scotty, I bought a 1997 Ford F-250 HD with the power stroke engine in 1997. I drove a truck for over 27 years and didn t drive my pickup much. It only has 9, 200 miles on it. What do you think it s worth? Should I be concerned about cracked hoses or have a good mechanic check it out just to make sure everything is hunky dory? Thanks Scotty-you re a wealth of information.
