I only drove Dodge Grand Caravans at my old job as a work van (I had an 2009, 2012, and 2015 base models.
Sure, the space was awesome, but the 2012 one that I inherited with 34, 000 miles, I had that piece of garbage in the shop more often than I had it on the road. The transmission wouldn't shift past 3rd gear with the engine revving higher the whole time. Out of the very many times I brought it in, 8 of those times that the Dodge dealership fixed the issue; the issue came right back typically after about a mile or so of leaving the dealership. I became a familiar face at many a Dodge dealership. The garbage van even stranded me outside of Toronto, 700 miles from home. The Dodge dealer up there still didn t fix the piece of junk. Honestly, I wouldn t buy one of those if my own life depended on it.
With that said, the 2009 and 2015 were decent enough

My brother in law gave me his old 220, 000 mile 1998 Dodge Caravan with the 3. 3 engine. He really takes care of his stuff so the van presents like a 2 year old car. I replaced the brakes, tires, struts and shocks and the car drives great. It now has 300, 000 miles, and I've gone from a dodge hater to a dodge lover, at least in this car.
So what gives? Did dodge make them better in 1998, or are we just lucky. I've was a car mechanic in the 70's, and spcialized in auto-electrics. I had my ASME general mechanic rating, so I did expect this car to be a typical Dodge junkwagon. I had a thing going in the 70's where I had the tools and knowledge to repair the Chrysler 300s from the early 50s. I even worked on their early front disk brakes that looked like a torque converter bolted to the axle.
Anyway, what gives with our car lasting so long?

I like minivan but it depends on how to take care of it, if you do the service on time, it will be a last long, because I have 06 Lincoln zephyr with 279, 000 miles on it and I change the engine oil on time, and I also change the transmission fluid on time, and it still has the original paint on it, and it looks nice, the engine is running so quiet, and another thing to hear engine if the engine running you have to your ear close to the tire to hear the sound of the engine, and again it has 279, 000 on it, I have it for 2 years and if I'm still living i will keep it for another 3 years, American car is my favorite car, like town car to 03-2011 grand Marquis to 03- 2011 and Cadillac start to 04-2011, and Lincoln zephyr to 06-2012

What is it about chrysler engine compartments? Everything under the hood looks cheap and shitty. We've had 3 of those junk vans in the family. One had a caliper that got stuck in braking mode and smoked the rotor and pads and the junk bucket had less than 1000 miles. 2nd one had suspension issues, the struts separated from the housing so it clunked over every little bump. The last one needed a new head, I chased a misfire code for months. After 3 dealers we finally found an honest one that fixed the head under warranty. Chrysler is garbage, pure garbage. LEase only unless you like working on cars

My fiancee and I sold our '97 t&c (3. 8l v6, 4-speed auto) with 216k miles, still runs great! I'll be fair to say that it does have some minor electrical issues (door locks and radio speakers, but its mechanically solid.
I do think its dumb that they're newer models dont have a transmission dipstick, but they're not the only manufacturer making the vehicles less owner friendly. Honestly, hp numbers aren't nearly as important as torque numbers. The '97 only had 160 hp, but a healthy 240 ft. -lbs. of torque (at low rpm, more than enough to break the tires loose on 2 tons of fun. :)

I had an '08 Chrysler Town and Country, but it had the crappy 3. 3L. had so many problems with it, but oddly enough, none with transmission. There was a plastic Y-pipe on the cooling system that would burst OFTEN. So often that parts stores have a kit for it! It would spray coolant all over the place, steam billowing from under the hood. After 4 years of dealing with it, 120k miles, i got rid of it for 900 after the PCV started leaking oil. I had to replace the radiator at around 100k, it has plastic sides that are clamped to aluminum, they separated, leak everywhere, terrible design.

So this van's engine is shutting off once it reaches highway-like speed; My sedan did the exact same thing and had no check engine light on. Ended up replacing the 'crankshaft position sensor'; my cheap scan tool found a code for it (even with no check engine light on. Easy thing to do besides the fact that the sensor was located in the middle of the engine bay but of course with enough effort and foul language the job got done and it totally worked (engine no longer shut off.
Interested to see the followup video to see how master Scottie addresses this van.

The ol' push rod V6 engines they put in these things back in the day ran Scotty and you KNOW it. Transmissions weren't set up for drag racing but rather plodding around parking lots at the mall, dropping off and picking up the entire Little League team at practice 5 days a week and occasionally tossing the Sears shell up on the roof rack and making the schlep 'down the ocean WITH of course everything packed but the kitchen sink. And oh yeah, Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth sold TONS AND TONS of 'em. Must have been doing something right.

I had the same issue with my 1992 BMW 525i 5-speed manual. I would be going 60 70 miles an hour down the highway and the next thing I know the thing is off. Luckily being a manual it's easy enough to put it in neutral and restart it but you have to also pay very close attention to the road and what you're doing as traffic is all around you and they don't know your car just died for no reason at all.
