Yah those jatco trans are not great.
Have a 2001 maxima with RE4F04A
At round 202k started shifting bad p0744
Dirty fluid
Did a 3 drain and fill with few 2k miles between flush using valvoline maxlife synthetic ATF
Lucus
And seafoam transtune.
On third drain - fill used only ATF additives.
It drives fine now has some shutter when staring from a complete stop at to times. But now doesn t appear to go into overdrive. And still gets p0744
New solenoid pack and harness may be too expensive to get put in. Car is maybe worth 1, 200. And has rear main seal leak.

Scotty, my brother-in-law had problems with his Nissan Altima. We followed your tutorial and tips to fix those issues and make those repairs (which saved him some big money. The number of problems that he has had with his vehicle is the reason why the company is going bankrupt. On the other hand, I have two Ford SUVs that have had no real issues despite having over 200K and 350K miles on them. People are willing to buy quality. Nissan isn't quality (at least compared with Toyota, Honda, Ford or even Mazda.

Hi Scotty! Been watching your videos for years. Thanks for doing a review on this car. Would you feel any differently about the car if it was the G37 S with the 6-speed manual transmission? :) I'm still daily driving my '05 G35 6-speed sedan. I'm at 165K miles with the original clutch. It's been a pretty good car. Wouldn't mind upgrading to an '11-'13 G37 S 6-speed with low miles someday, but they are hard to find. Thanks!

Scotty, a question: I've heard that a good strategy for car buying is to by a 3YO used car, and sell it when it hits 6YO, then repeat. This has been said to be the flattest spot in the depreciation curve for most cars. And given average mileage patterns, this keeps you in a car with less than 100, 000 miles (buying at 45K or less and selling at 90K depending on how much someone drives) Do you agree with this strategy?

I had an Infiniti Q50 with the same engine as that g37x (just a side note, the x designation is for awd, so that car is awd) I bought it 1 year old CPO with 9k miles, within the next 20k miles over the next year, the dealer had 18k in repairs, and the car had left me stranded multiple times when the throttle bodies failed. Loved the car, super unreliable, sold it and bought a new mustang gt, so much happier

I purchased a used 2006 G35 with 135, 00 miles for 3500. I ended up putting about 50k more miles on it before replacing it. The transmission definitely had some issues, but thankfully didn't give out in my time of owning the car. It would always slam backwards when put in reverse, but no transmission problems when going forward.

It pisses me off sooo much what these corporations with multiple brands are doing to us. My grandfathers 97 maxima lasted well over 300k miles with the original trans and engine before giving up. They don't want you to keep your car for more then a few years if your lucky then they want you to keep buying newer ones.

My brother has the 2011 nissan crapxima, he's had to have the transmission replaced, thankfully he had an extended warranty. Now he has a bad water pump. cheap part but the dealership labor is 2700. 00. having difficulty finding someone local to replace, everyone says its too labor intensive.

Do I just have really good luck with Infiniti s or does everyone in the comments have bad luck? I ve never had a serious issue with Infiniti until one hit 199k miles. I don t say they are very reliable but I ve owned so many and I don t see how someone could go wrong with one.
