Scotty, I know this isnt a joyous topic. Could you please make a video about the newer cars that have these dial shift selectors or the electronic levers that go back to the same position. In recent news here in Sugar Land a 3 y/o child was ran over after a car was accidentally shifted into reverse by accidentally bumping the dial while the driver was turning on the air conditioning. With your massive viewership and honesty, I think you may have an impact in reducing the number of these cars on the road that have these simplified gear selectors that arent as safe as past designs. Another thing I wanted to ask was that if a driver is parking a car on an incline, say parking on a driveway while facing a house, is it safe to put the car in neutral while holding the brake and apply the parking brake. Then let the car rest on the parking brake before shifting into park? In the case of that girl I think if the driver had developed the habit of doing this kind of parking then if his brake was strong enough it might have been able to stop the car even if it was trying to roll in reverse and saved the girls life. I also think this method of parking might result in less wear on the parking gear since the brakes take the pressure. If Im wrong in any way Id love to be corrected in the comments below. Please drive safely.

Low mileage old cars, unless youre in a dry climate area, you have to get on a lift and go over closely for rust issues. Sitting over a concrete floor for years or if they saw road salt and didnt get washed well they can just sit and rot because they never get used and then when you do start driving it, the vibration of going down the road shakes everything loose. I had a 56, 000 mile Suburban that was a great truck but it was so rusted that when I accidentally broke the back window the whole dang tailgate fell off. I ended up replacing every line under it, brakes and fuel. But it was a 500 truck and it lasted me five years of really hard abuse, once I had something like 7500 lbs behind it between the trailer, the car on it, and the 50 or so starters and generators (remember those) I pulled out of the car afterwards. We sold another one, a 60 Caddy hearse that looked pretty decent but on a truck going to California the thing fell apart, one of the springs broke in the back even. At least thats what the buyer said, they never did send any pictures.

Hey Scotty I have a 2007 Toyota Sienna with the 3. 5 V6 in it. Since Ive owned it starting at 83K miles the thing sounds like a pinging diesel engine when it starts in the cold weather and makes all kinds of noise until it finally warms up all the way. Its been doing this for 4 years now and hasnt broke but just doesnt sound normal. Some people have told me its piston slap as part of the design to save gas until the engine has warmed up all the way and piston heads expand but that just sounds crazy to me. Today the vehicle has 125K on it. Ive never seen a 3. 5 Sienna for sale with more than around 150, 000 miles on it. yet I see the older Siennas with the 3. 3 V6 with over 250K miles on them. Should I keep my 3. 5 Sienna or dump it before something goes very bad? Thanks

I have a 12 tacoma 2. 7 4x4 with a 115, 000 miles n tow about 2500 routinely and it has zero issues. It is a slow truck empty, i will def admit it only get slower, but it handles it just fine n its the perfect truck for me. I chnage the oil every 5000k n i use mobile one full syn high mileage n either k & n filter or mobile one filter but always k & n filter in the winter. Any ither filter in the winter n i notice is knocks hard (toyota knock if u will) in the morning on cold days here in pa while the oil is warming up but doesnt at all with a k&n oil filter so it worth it to me.

You are not getting wear on a warmengine start-up. Cold starts are when most wear can theoretically happen. But how much wear is really happening? Do you think that when a warm engine shuts off for a short time period that all of the oil drains off the engine components? No, they all still have a film of oil on them. There have been engines with a million miles on them that have been torn down to inspect the internals, only to find everything looking great. You can see multiple videos on those online. How many start-stop cycles have been on those engines? A lot.

Blown head gaskets are no fun. Ive only experienced it once. Eons ago, I was driving my Moms 1992 Plymouth Acclaim and it overheated sitting at a red light. I started noticing a few days later that the car was idling really rough. Felt like the engine was bouncing. She took it to a mechanic and found out the head gasket blew and cracked the head. Luckily those cars were super cheap and easy to work on, so she had the work done for less than 1, 000 and we drove it for another 2yrs or so until someone rear ended and totaled the car at 182k miles.

Im about to buy a car (17 CPO automatic corolla xle, 18k, trying to get it for 16k) from the dealer and it makes a sound when you left off the brakes. Sort of like a mix of a clunk and screech, every single time. Do you know what the problem is specifically? Ima bring it up before purchasing so it gets fixed. Also, would you consider that a good buy? It comes with 1yr/24k miles warranty bumper to bumper left and a 7yr/100k mile (drive train I believe) warranty afterwards. Good for the price? Thanks

How to destroy reliability 101. 1. Drive the hail out of it. 2. Get a turbo or supercharger with lots of boost. See #1. 3. Turn off half the cylinders instead of using the right ratio in the transmission. I remember test driving a Dodge Magnum with the 350 V8. 350 hp 400lb of torque and it was at 3000 rpm at 50mph 80km/h because it was using only 4 cylinders. It was in third when it should have been in 5th with the TCC on. Trying to save fuel at 3000rpm with a 350V8? How does that work?

Im lookin at a honda accord 2004 hybrid says needs new hybrid battery so engine light is on. First will that make it so the emissions people wont test for the light being on and second is there a way to turn off that damnable system where the car turns off at stop lights if i bought the dam thing? Guess not. And why do i not hear a starter when they start back up at a light and can you turn of the system that turns off some of the cylinders as well. PROBABLY NOOOOOOOT.
