Gr8 tips some I do follow
I have a 2001 maxima 210k mikes
Yes. I did a slow drain and fill of transmission (3x) to do a flush. I knew it was risky but had nothing to loose it would really move much. Gamble paid off it moves now but has TCC solenoid issue (p0744)
I used full synthetic ATF Compatible with matic-D. I also used Lucus and seafoam, transtune. But upon last drain fill used only ATF and there was a few thousand miles between. Each drain fill.
For oil it calls for 5w30. But moved to 10w30 due leaking (rear main seal) ever after at205, and burning.
Service Manual did say 10w30 could be used. Also substituted 1qt oil with 1qt oil stabilizer. And it s still going. It s not burning oil or leaking as much. Just keeping it on life support for a few more years. It s my son first car now. Transmission issue didn t show up u till after few months the got it 198k miles.
It s ok for around town no long trips.
Always keep oil in trunk to top off. Every so often.

Scotty: Don't do the following. Me: Hold my beer. Remember when using an extinguisher: Aim at the BASE of the flame, not the smoke or flames. Watch out opening the hood of a smoking car, it may flare up violently. Try to use the extinguisher through the wheel wells. If you can't afford the fancy extinguishers, you can get the cheaper one from about 15-30 U. S. D. I fought a car fire once, but needed a bigger extinguisher. At least I bough time for the fire department to arrive in that crowded parking lot, although the car was likely totaled due to cost of repairing the fire damage.

Scotty, or I should say, Mr. Kilmer the Legend. Have a 1998 Chevy Blazer, the steering wheel has quite a bit of play in the steering wheel and getting a weird sound from underneath the car. What could be causing this? I was thinking ball joints or maybe tie rod? Car has 170k miles and runs great, so might get it repaired if its not too much.

5: 40 So.
Flow is the issue, and density is worthless or nonsensical now.
Agree!
So your argument about warming up the engine (coolant, lubricant, metals. Plus the hydraulic fluid of the auto transmission) is a must: 30+ sec in summer, 3+ minutes in winter.
Or are you so illogical to understand those are the same argument?

He didn't explain why you should NOT change your oil if it was a long time since you had it changed. I watched a video of an oil change on an old F150 I believe it was. And all that dirt and metal shavings that came out of it was horrible. How can it be better to just let it drive with that stuff in the engine?

I owned a Mitsubishi with a CVT for 8 years with 4 trans oil services. 150, 000kms at disposal. The trans was better in the last years vs when new as the Mitsubishi dealer oil was a lower quality than the CVT oil I used for the last two trans oil changes. Change it every two years. Works well.

Modern cars calling for 0w20 might only be calling for that to meet CAFE standards for fuel economy reports to the government, and for people in cold climates with auto stop/start feature. I am very curious if a 5w20 is a safe replacement. Never know who/what to trust anymore.

Uncle Scotty! What's your advice on learning how to fix cars, what do I start learning. My dad's a great mechanic like you! But he has problems with his sore body all the time. Anything you want to tell him too? We both love you! He's about your age too! Like 40 or 50?

I used to take my vehicles to the dealer to have the trans fluid completely flushed with a flushing machine. Over the years I've come to understand that flushing is not right and that only draining trans oil pan and replacing filter is the best way to service an AT.
