I like scotty and he makes great videos but. INPA or ISTA is free and all you need is a laptop and you have the dealer program for any bmw, programming, scanning, diagnosing. no special expensive scanners. Secondly. BMW has a very cheap aftermarket parts market because the have been using the same 6cylinder engine for over a decade. Thirdly, you need to change the transmission fluid around 60 to 80 thousand miles because the fluid becomes burnt and that combined with the metal particles clogs up the valve body and can create random shifting issues, or just clog the solenoids so the car doesnt shift at all. As for the turbos, They are made by mitsubishi lol. a good quality american rebuild kit is about 100 for them both. Ignition coils are 10- 20.
All i am saying is, if you do you own work, you dont have an endless money pit, thats it

Model it still drives superb only 90, 000 miles on it starts first time drives great 2. 6 engine 12 spark plugs again my services are done every 10 thousand miles or sometimes I do not do the mileage so every year. coils and injectors are a problem on BMW s high mileage ones they sell different coils and injectors tor s. Quality wise lots have been upgraded

I agree on the plastic, but it's a 2 way street, money pit true for those who don't know how to do anything, but if you decide to engage yourself in knowledge and diy might not be such a money pit order parts online cheaper and do it yourself way cheaper, i have an 03 cadillac cts i replaced the spark plugs and coil packs myself for 73 in parts and did it myself vs when i called the auto shop just to test them, they said 626 so
Auto shop 626
DIY 73
It's all up to the owner on how to go about it

I have owned many bmws in my time. yeah they are finicky but damn they drive nice when sorted correctly. Now though I m sticking to vw, despite what Scotty says. the vws have been the easiest cars to own and operate for me. I have had Toyotas, Honda s, jeeps, gm cars, Audi, Fords, Mazda s, subarus, many dang cars. the vw has been the best dang car for the.
Oh and yes I work on all of my cars. I don t really trust other people to handle my problems. unless the warranty covers it

So, German engineering can't put up with < 200 opening and closings of a gas shock, used to keep the hood open?
Also, how can a high voltage generator coil go bad? No moving part and sealed in epoxy and not exposed to the environment?
These technologies are experimental, and the customer is the guinea pig.

Bmws may be known as endless money pits its cause of that plastic crap. And the dealerships rip you off. If you know how to get by these, and find a part which are inexpensive, you spend like 50 bucks and 3 hours of work.
Used bmws suck tho, you get ripped off there aswell about dat scotty is right.

Point about hard top convertables. they are just as likely to leak as soft top convertables. Because of the stress on the seal joins and folds in the seals between the roof panels these seals go bad. Had a hard top SL convertable that was nothing but a leaky fish bowl in heavy rain.

You cannot even disconnect the battery and change it in those German cars. You need the dealer to reprogram the computer, for the computer keep track of the age of the battery and adjust charging rate accordingly. I don't know whether Scotty's code reader can do it or not.
