Scotty and everyone else The fluid is the only thing in a transmission that dissipates heat, takes the abuse of the frictions and pressurizes the torque converter. The fluid takes the abuse of transfer of energy from component to component. AT fluid is hydraulic fluid, your asking it to do a lot. Particularly once the fluid exceed 230 degrees F, its life and performance is significantly reduced. The best way to deal with AT fluid. Drain out what you can and replace what was drained every 10K. That maintains a majority of new fluid. It will prolong the life of the filter and everything in your tranny. Finally never park an AT where its in park and holding the vehicle. Have the parking brake hold the vehicle. Let it settle with your tranny in neutral. Then shift it into park. It should then come out of park without resistance. AT trannies are complicated and are never maintained or treated correctly. Do these 2 things. It will last as long as you need. Ignore manufacturer recommendations. Those are minimum requirements.

Tell the folks about the DCTs that appeared this century and other electric clutch automatics. They dont have fluid. They screw up too, but they are dry clutch and a servo (Ford/Kia/Hyundai) or wet clutch (European. I had a 90s BMW with a hydromatic (GM built. No dipstick. You had to run the car, get it hot, crawl under it, remove the 25mm plug (adjacent to the tail pipe) and if fluid didnt trickle out it was low. Then you had to pump the fluid up into it while it was running, till it dripped, and put the plug back. What a PIA for either the DIY or even the shop mechanic with a lift. GREAT MOTOR. Only buy an old BMW with a 6 speed manual.

Hey Scotty I have a really big question, so I have a 2015 Chevy impala and I got into a accident and had to have the steering column replaced and they put a new one in but are saying that they cant reset the codes on the computer in the car to get the power steering back, is there any way that this is able to be fixed? The shop that repaired my car got the part used from a donor car they used for other parts on my car but the dealership that has to reset it says I have to buy a new one in order to reset the ECU, are they just trying to get more money or what? (The used part was 500 and a new one would be 2800) please help

I still dont agree that i6s put out less power than V6s. Prove IT 2jz and rb26 and even bmw i6s are some of the best. Name some great v6s that people can modify easily to gain power? I just dont see it. Manufacturers went v6 because it can be mounted in tight spaces easily and can be put into fwd as well as rwd configurations. I6s make better, more balanced power but can only be in rwd configuration (this means awd as well but most awd are fwd configuration.

These days cars are seen as transportation appliances in the same vein as a phone by 80% of the public. Once the 3-5 years are up, then they get rid of them so that they get the new models because they want the up to date tech. Thats why automakers are putting in so much time into the tech into the cars and are cheapening the internal of the cars. Look at modern BMW/Mercedes. Toyota and Honda are now being built in the same way.

The chief mechanic at my local Hyundai dealer told me (in confidence) how to change transmission fluid on my 2013 Sonata. With the car level (ramps and jack stands) remove the fill, vent, and drain plugs (in that order) and measure how much comes out. Refill that amount + 1/2 qt. No computers No scan tools No R2 D2 to interpret the entire Imperial network 127, 000 miles on and still shifts like new

Scotty Kilmer. I recently replaced my headlight assembly on my 2008 accord. They were aftermarket but it was only the plastic housing that was replaced. Same word and sockets and bulbs. Now the left blinker acts as if the bulb is going out. I replaced the bulb still acts the same way. Also noticed theres a difference in brightness between the two sets of headlights. What might be the problem?
