As much as I like Scottys videos, I feel its important to point out that hes looking at things from the point of view of a mechanic - who (essentially) only sees cars when they are not working properly. Thats important because the 4th gen Rav4 (which just went out of production) sold more units than the previous 3 generations combined -4th Gen - 1, 949, 5913rd gen - 1, 085, 8962nd gen - 440, 7821st gen - 246, 324Nothing is perfect and there are going to be issues with a number of vehicles. When you sell nearly 2x the amount of 4th gen as 3rd gen, naturally there are going to be more issues just by sheer volume. Independent companies that rate reliability (like True Delta) rate the 2013-2016 the highest for reliability (99%) and the 2016-2018 a bit less (95%, but still greater than the 3rd gen (92%. Again, not saying hes wrong, and I love the videos - but perspective needs to be taken into account.

I was really syched on the new 19 Rav 4 then I drove one. BIG disappointment. Let me start by saying it rode well, transmission was smooth, but when you really stepped on it that upgraded 2. 5 Liter I-4 sounded like a sewing machine coming apart Noisy, raspy, unrefined. Big take away and deal killer. Also they have priced the new RAV4 out of sight. Sure you can buy a base LE for about 26-27 K but if you wanted heated power seats, a moon roof, fake leather or bigger wheels youre up close to 36K. The equipment that used to be standard on lets say an XLE is not there and requires buying a couple additional option pkgs. jumping up the price. Bought a loaded Honda CR-V for 28, 500. Far better deal. And Hondas 1. 5 (190 hp) turbo is smooth as silk and gets great fuel mileage. I also own a 14 Toyota Highlander which is a great vehicle.

As a mechanical engineer i did my research on RAV4 2016 LE made in Japan model and found out that theyre greatly built and would last. Rav4 2016 is the first 4 cylinder Rav4 from Toyota. Im with Scotty on the 2017, 2018, 2019 Rav4s, Toyota thought they over did it on 2016 models so they started cutting corners by using cheap automation which dropped the new models prices and quality. but if you are thinking about buying 2016 Rav4 or any other 4-cylinder vehicle that is made in 2016 they will all have one problem, the over running of the engine to save on gas which will causes the engine to heat more. so always keep an eye on your coolant level and invest in a best oil when changing the oil and you should be good to go.

Hey Scotty hope u doing well, Ive bean watching your videos for a while and I really enjoy them, I found them funny and educational, how ever we all know u like toyota/ lexus, we like them to, can u make a video about what ones to buys and what ones to avoid, old and new from bought brands. Like you Im a cheap skate I dont like spending a penny, specially is on things that will depreciate dramatically so Im after a new car that wont brake the bank and will be very reliable, I aint got time and money to fix the bloody thing all the time. I now drive a vauxhall twin top 1. 8 that leks tones of water in and u need muscles like Ronnie Coleman when the power steering stopes working Thx Scotty Keep reaving your engine

This confirms my suspicion. The new Toyotas are so full of cheap hard plastics, its astonishing. They know theyre top dog now so they dont need to work as hard as they used to, they let the brand sell itself and can afford to be lazy. so quality has gone down. Their engines and transmissions, especially non CVTS are still pretty good though. Interior quality, Hondas got them beat. The Honda engines are bit better too. The pinnacle of Toyota and Hondas were really the 90s. Those cars were over engineered to last forever. I cant say the same about modern Toyotas and Hondas. I wish quality only improves over time, but I suppose theres a point of diminishing returns for everything.

My Mother-in-law has a 2016 Kia Soul 1. 6L with a 6speed AutomaticTransmission for her kia is the best car on gas and I told her her car has a 13. 5 Gallon tank on that lil Engine 25 on city/30hwy thats really bad for a 4 Bangor the dart 2. 0L is 28 on city/35 in hwy in a 10. 5 Gallon tank but the Toyota Prius are the best selling gas saver but There Ugly looking cars

This dude is stuck in the 1970s I really think thats bull I have 2 Toyotas that I bought new, and even a 2016 Corolla that has 60000 miles with no issues even after its been in a wreck, its still not getting problems. The new rav4 is even built in Japan (the same plant that built the rav4 since the first generation) and Japan has the best automotive engineering imo, and I can see that with my 2018 Camry where all the body panels are really even to the point that I dont see any imperfections, where I even newer camrys built in Kentucky I see slightly uneven taillights, doors, even fenders.

A lot of his videos are great, but this is not. Dont act like you know about a car unless youve sat in it, worked on it, or owned it, and definitely dont make promises about how itll perform A history lesson about your experience with previous generations is fine, but dont lure people into a video talking crap about a new generation you know nothing about. Thats not gonna help anyone make an informed decision its just gonna spread misinformation. Maybe it is crap, maybe it is worse. or maybe its better. No one can say yet because they got on the lots last f-ing week

im really considering a 2015-2018 Rav4 awd, statisticly its mpg with all wheel drive and its automatic ( no cvt ) is what draws me in, Im on my 2nd Subaru love the cars but feel that company is taking a nose dive since 2012, i had a 99 and bought the 08 impreza because i hated the 2012. im biast towards anything new because all everyone cares about is the tech, i feel manufacturers are cutting quality to relocate funds towards giving you this garbage. I always like to see that it has some linage of motors, transmissions, platforms being used over 5 years
