You Can\'t Even Work On Your Own Car Anymore B Kay: Hello Scotty, how are you? I've got a little problem with a Lexus ES 330 '04 Model I just bought. I mistakenly drove through a pothole and I noticed the speedometer stopped working. I checked for the code and it gave me an error C1244 (Open or Short Deceleration Sensor Circuit. I've tried searching for where the DSC is in the car but I can't find it. I'd appreciate if anyone can help me with this.

Seatbelt pre-tensioners are designed to pull you back to the seat a millisecond or two before the airbag fires. This is incase you are leaning forward when the impact occurs. If you are in direct contact with the airbag as it inflates, your injuries could be more severe than if you are back against the seat, and move forward into the already inflated bag, post maximum pressure. You probably, for safety sake, should replace the assembly, but if you want the light to go out, unplug the wires to the pyrotechnic motor that is designed to winch you back, and replace with a 3 ohm resistor. Just make sure you declare you did so when you sell the car, or get it fixed before you sell it. And remember, lack of having the pre-tensioner working, could KILL you.

My bumpers do not line up with other car's bumpers at all after the suspension lift. A SRS light turned on six months ago. I am wondering what good the airbags are if they will not deploy unless I hit a train or a wall, or a lorry. My bumpers will go right over most of a car now. I just disassembled the instrument cluster and put a piece of tape over the SRS light. Someone hit me while my vehicle was parked last year, relatively hard. The airbag did not deploy. It is allowed to disable your airbag in the region I live if you are under a certain height. I am just over that height. But what if I am slouching in my seat? The SRS error just saved me from paying to have the airbag disabled.

You also dont have to work on new cars as much. Had a 2003 Acura CL-s type with 275k problem free miles, an 05 mustang gt with 95k miles without a single problem and I currently have a 2015 mustang gt, 2018 TL awd and I'm sure I wont have any problems. My dad was under the hood of his 68 charger and 85 iroc z constantly, so I would rather have a more difficult time fixing a newer once in a blue moon that have an easier time on a car that always needs something. Pick a reliable car and it wont matter hoe hard it is to fix.

Scotty, Do you find manufacture specific software better than an all in one scanner? Like using AllisonDOC, Wabco, Cummins Insite, etc have great diagnostic and testing features I use with a Nexiq usb-link 2 and a cheap laptop. Do you see all those features in say a high end snap on scanner or your scanner. I have never used those and was curious on your thoughts. I mainly work on semis and step vans so It May be a different world than yours. Thanks.

You are the best, Scotty You should win a Nobel Peace Prize or something I didn't know anything about cars, but I just have to since my husband passed away. I'm learning how to take care of what I got. Speaking of which, I waited once for your podcast with question about how to maintain my Nissan Altima 2009 with 99, 000 mileage; and my phone got a problem when you got online, so I didn't get to know what you got to say. God bless

They will do anything to force you into the dealer. The trucking industry forced the engine manufacturers into a standardized Computer code, but the body manufacturer has put a bunch of computers in the truck that you can't talk to. As an example Volvo has a light control module (headlights, taillights) that you can change, and then you have to take it to the dealer to have it programed to your truck. 1 hour shop time 160.

Its nice to have these scan tools. But come on, 5000? Its just a computer that talks on a standard bus. I get that you need to pay software developers and the makers but the genuine hardware part is what? 200 worth of chips, wires and display? A Raspberry Pi probably has more power. I guess I should be glad that the dealer doesnt have a monopoly on scan tools. Support Right to Repair

So then, with this issue, I understand that the driver airbags won't deploy? Personally, I would rather pay the, say, 1, 000 that an uncalculable hospital bill, much less the pain, suffering and possibly permanent disability that an unprotected crash can cause. I wouldn't buy a 75 motorcycles helmet that won't adequately protect my head. I would spend 400 + for that protection.

These are reasons why people find ways to skip emitions because they make it into a money pit greed fest when saving the planet should be encouraged and FREE to encourage this. These save the planet people who donate money where does the money go? By making it expensive they are making people seek loop holes.
