Scotty, you cant catch a key fob code over the air. Car key fobs use a rolling pseudo-random code bank. When you program the key fob, the car syncs with the key fob and stores a preset of 125 to 250 codes. When you push the button, the key fob sends the first code on the list to the cars receiver and then skips to the next number. The car receiver is listening for any of the codes on the list in case you pushed the button while out of range or while it was in your pocket, etc. The receiver then skips to whatever code it saw, and both devices fill up the list again. A criminal trying to catch the code out of the air will just get a code thats useless, as the receiver has already discarded that code. Newer garage door openers work the same way (the old ones used a 12 bit fixed code that was easy to sniff.

I own and been useing my key with a resistor in it a PK3 in Buick 2003 Rendevous. OnStar disabled my security system key no longer works I had it towed to Chevy dealer their is no Buick dealer in Decatur Al. They talked like Parts replacers not mechanics. Service. Mgr said his guy would replace the security modjule I looked its price from GM IS 140 BUCKS. AND reprogram the computer the charge would be 600+ many more and no guarantee it would work or start. I told them to for get it I didnt know they were parts replacers instead of mechanics. All people I had read on Google complaints said 400 was what was normal charge to do that except 1 and they said they paid 1200 for several parts their parts replacers tried and it never worked.

Stay aware in the Portland, Or and surrounding area. Over 8000 car thefts in Portland for the year 2017 and over 7500 for 2018. #5 most stolen cars in the country In Vancouver a few years back at bout 1pm, I was getting ready to leave the grocery store parking lot and and someone tried to break into my 84 toyota truck while sitting in the driver seat. I heard him trying to key my passenger lock so I jumped out asking, what are you doing? Told me it was his friends truck and he was told to come get it. I said NO its my truck and he started to fight me then mellowed and left. He didnt know my crazy 60lb red wolf/red doberman was waiting for him. The car he was driving was a white Honda Civic (probably stolen) with a stolen tag

Alternate hypothesis to Civics being theft #1. They are also some of the most common cars in America, so just statistically, they should be some of the most wrecked and most stolen. Every list I looked at has them in the top 10 most common, many say top 5 or 3. Just by the numbers it makes sense. Also I feel like theives would target economy cars because people who drive them have less time/resources to punish them for it. There is the whole Civic tuning scene. Lots of factors. I think youre right about having highest demand for parts being part of it, but just by the fact there are more Civics out there than almost any other car, they would be the most wrecked and most stolen.

I had a honda civic. It was stolen in DC. I had parked right in front of the scottish rite masonic temple so there is ZERO crime in that area and I never even considered it would get stolen parked there. Who ever stole my car was very good at what they do because he obviously did not draw any suspicion in a location with a large police presence. I did spend quite a bit of time smoking bong hits in the car and someone might have seen me and called a tow truck. .. anyways, The police found my car a few days later, and aside from some stolen camping equipment, the car was intact. Then I totaled the car a year later. .. so this video is quite relevant to my personal experience.

Civics and Accords are routinely the most stolen vehicles in the US. Have been since at least the 90s, if not longer. Theyre both popular sellers, so I suspect the sheer number of them on the road has something to do with that. Otherwise Im stumped. Theyre not highly desirable, rare, or special in any way. As for being the most wrecked, Civic is very popular among young drivers. Young drivers tend to have more accidents due to reckless driving behavior. I suspect the # of driver deaths is also pretty high compared to all cars sold in the US. Small, cheaper cars generally have higher death rates for these reasons.

Obviously, the cars that are sold in the highest numbers will also be stolen (and wrecked) more often. The Civic, Accord, Camry and Corolla are all perennial top sellers, so will all be stolen and wrecked more often than Alfas and Aston Martins. Im sure you will also find full-size Chev and Ford pickups make the most-stolen list as well - simply due to the huge numbers sold. What we need to know is how many vehicles of a particular model and year are stolen compared to how many are sold. Now that would show us which cars are desirable to thieves and (perhaps) easy to steal.

Wow I always told folks around that Hondas are the most cars involved in accidents, I didnt bother to validate my personal estimates, heres proof Here in my country Honda is known to easily get their tie rods burst and the tires just break out Its extremely common I see more than 2 weekly Many in the developed world may not know this but its so well known even amongst kids that Honda joints break and leave you absolutely stranded This also happens on the high way causing serious accidents. Scotty, Ill post a video of compilations of Hondas breaking off the joints.

i used to live in Russia and cars over there got stolen very often. My dads car was attempted to be stolen 3 times in just a few years (it was 2002 Toyota Mark 2 I think. Each 3 of those times were unsuccessful. Basically the car had some sort of special starting mechanism where the car would turn off about 3 seconds after start unless you pull some levers around in a specific sequence. So every time the thieves would break in, start the car, theyd only drive a foot or so before the car shut off, and ofcourse they didnt know what to do so fled the scene
