Japanese emission laws are so strict you need to rebuild or replace the engine by 50, 000 miles. The engines are then shipped to the US and sold as replacements. Kei is a cool looking and bare bones auto. No air conditioning, cruise control or other frills you commonly see here in economy cars. Not a badvehicle unless you live almost anywhere south of I-70. Great presentation and kudos on your English and your car. Boo on Japanese city streets that look like an alley.

Ken-san(Mr. Ken): Daihatsu is a company fully owned by Scotty. (lol) So desu ka(Is that so. Way too funny (. _. ) I liked Ken-sans video, he did a great job and he even left the blooper that cracked me up big times. The B-roll footage of Japan really warmed and broke my heart at the same time. Thank you for posting this video Scotty, I loved it (. _. )

How good is the Toyota Crown? At 8: 33 you can see a Crown taxi which is an 8th generation Crown. I was in that car when I went to Japan and it was among the most impressive cars ever. It was solid like a tank. That could be as old as 1987 and could have several hundred thousand miles on it Great review on the Daihatsu by the way

That car looks truly ashamed of itself. Its a wonder it doesnt have LG Commercial Washer stenciled on its sides. Dahatsu went out of their way to make something that looks like a shipping box on wheels but with far less charm. No amount of rationalizing about space utilization can justify something so deliberately ugly.

Great video, I love Kei cars. We did get a few of them imported into the UK by Daihatsu and Suzuki, but not so much now. I owned a Daihatsu Charade once, great car, although Daihatsu no longer sell cars in the UK and Europe, Suzuki do sell the Jimny here which is sold in Japan as a Kei car with a 658 cc engine.

Thanks for the presentation; my criticism is limited to the car which has waaaay too much techno-geekery for me. Excess expense and complexity, guaranteed to cause headaches at some point. And Im getting 50 mpg with my standard American Fords, so hwat tha poin?

Dad had a K car, Chrysler made, it was cheap to buy, dependable, and lasted 20 years. Might have lasted longer if it hadnt burned up in a garage fire. I honestly like that K car better than the Japanese version, it just wouldnt quit.

In a country full with eco Kei cars, I wonder how much it would cost me to run my 2007 E420 CDI Mercedes in Japan. Its a beast of a car with a 4. 0L twin-turbo V8 that makes 390hp and 900Nm and has no DPF cause I got rid of it.

Daihatsu cars are no longer sold in Australia, But their last really popular car was the Daihatsu Charade. I had their large car, Daihatsu Applause, that followed. Daihatsu car engines had a reputation of lasting forever.
