True story: Back in 1988 my friend Richard Seaborne (hot shot young video game developer and best friend) bought a wine red MR2 supercharged automatic though(tranny burned out pretty quickly, but thats another story) My family had a 1984 Lincoln Town Car. On a way back to San Jose, CommieFornia on highway 280- I was doing my best to keep up with his pocket rocket. I was flooring the huge boat trying to keep up withhim- he exited near San Jose City College and I followed. I got out the exit doing about 60 mph. only to find that my friend had stopped at the exit redlight about 3 car lengths ahead of me. I slammed on the Lincolns brakes. I saw nothing but pavement as it nose dove. The car then hopped its entire front end into the sky- I saw nothing but blue, then came thundering down and stopped about 2 feet from my friends car-(He later told me he saw that on his rearview mirror and thought he was going to die) Damn those old Lincolns had good brakes (:

This car is so cool. There is a doctor at Mt Sinai in the East Village with the same year and model as this car. He keeps it parked on 12th Street and 2nd Avenue. In addition, he also keeps a Supra MK2 parked on the same corner. I asked him why hes able to keep his cars parked without moving them often, and he said that his residency at the hospital gives him special parking privileges? Anyway, he does take them for rides around the city fairly often (obviously, but if any New Yorkers find themselves in the East Village- go look for this car It is in great shape If you are lucky, you might run into the owner

I own 2 Supercharged mk1 MR2s. I have driven a mk1 MR2 since 1993. They were really a unique venture for Toyota using their tried and true technology of the day. Itd never pass an accountants desk today. 1st, an original near-stock 1989 SC with 59K miles. 2nd, a conversion 87 hardtop NA-SC that is lightly modified with undersize crank pulley (new old stock 4A block with GZE internals mated to a new old stock C52 transmission with a limited slip dif from a 99 Corolla JDM blacktop.

this car was absolutely devastating for the 22 grand or so it cost new. it would smoke damn near anything that costs less than 100 grand. but yeah. you had literally zero seconds of warning before you were just spinning there in one spot, goin. damn. wtf. the only reason these werent all over the place is because nobody who wanted one could afford the insurance on em. the insurance cost that same as for a 928 or whatever.

Ive got a 3rd gen MR2 (the Spyder. Fun car to drive. Probably the most fun you can have on four wheels. The fact that Toyota wont ever release a 4th gen version of the MR2 makes these cars collectors items which are going up in value. The closest thing you can get to an MR2 these days is the Lotus Elise. Just sayin.

This MR2 is probably better than Scottys Celica. However, I dont like the 4AGZE engine. It has a problematic inner drive shaft issues and the knock sensor. I will swap this engine out for a screaming non turbo 4AGE Blacktop 20Valve engine pair with a 6 speed manual transmission anytime, any day.
