In this video we'll see a special section of track that isn't normally used by passenger services (Wettingen - Baden Oberstadt - Mellingen. A little over 2 years ago, I released my first cab ride video on this line, only in the opposite direction with a passenger train that was rerouted due to construction work in the Heitersberg Tunnel. After passing through Killwangen-Spreitenbach on the way back, we see the Heitersberg tunnel to the left which is the fastest route to Olten. We take the Baden - Brugg line, but branch off in Wettingen in the direction of Mellingen. This line connects back up with the Heiterberg line shortly after the Heitersberg tunnel. As we come to a halt in Mellingen, an InterCity can be seen passing on the Heitersberg line. A number of years ago this line was still served by local trains that have since been replaced by buses. The old stations are still there, telling the story of how things used to be. If you'd like to donate, please click the following link. Always enjoy seeing light-passenger/freight-only lines as viewed in the video's final ten minutes. I remember taking the tunnel route at the junction leading off that sequence in an earlier presentation.
Don't know if the terminology is the same in Switzerland, but had the coaches at 24: 35 been in revenue service that consist would have constituted a mixed train here in the United States. Thanks, Lorirocks.

Another great video! There is so much to see that it needs to be watched a few times. The route through Baden Oberstadt, where we feel to be almost riding through people's back gardens, gives a fascinating and more intimate view of Swiss life. I love the beautiful mountains and lakes but this video has an equally interesting story to tell.

Ah yes, that's a beautiful stretch of the river there isn't it approaching Killwangen. We've been on a few trains that have turned off into the tunnel heading south from there, but not gone this way so often. Those Vectrons do accelerate smartly when running light engine don't they.

24: 38 Are that Einheitswagen I? It is always sad to see old equipment go to get scrapped. I think of 747-400, MD-11, Mat '64, NS 1200, and so on. Probably because of the emotions related to those vehicles.

Ah, an Fccnpps at 19: 30. Which I have as a model, except for the fact that it's merely a painted Fccpps (which you mainly find in the Netherlands. I'll pay better attention next time.

More passenger trains are being replaced by busses. The big manufacturers have got us wanting cars a d those can't afford them they put buses inplace. Rail travel is being strangled out.

Switzerland has got to be the greenest country I've ever seen! The air must smell fragrant! Just gorgeous! And that train yard goes on forever! Loved this video!
