In late November and early December of 2013, Amtrak sent its recently painted Veterans special locomotive, P42DC number 42 to Southern California. The primary purpose for this move was to run the locomotive on the annual Pearl Harbor Day Troop Train trips on the Pacific Surfliner on December 7th, 2013. In this video, you will see 42 on 3 different occasions.
1: Southbound Coaster 662 stops at Sorrento Valley at 6: 15 PM 11/29/13
2: Amtrak train 582 with P42 42 passes through Sorrento Valley at 6: 25 PM 11/29/13
3: Southbound Surfliner train 566 passes along the Del Mar Cliffs with 42 leading. 12/1/13
4/5: Train 573 heads north at Miramar with 42 leading and 4 private cars as part of the Pearl Harbor Troop Train. The second shot was taken on my Nikon D5000 DSLR
Metra: Railtastic catch. Love the shot of it along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, and love the shot of it with all those private cars. That Coaster F40PH-3C or -2C or what ever kind of F40PH it was, it sure sounded like an MP36 throttleing up. Date: 2022-05-12
