On January 21st, 2005 passenger train service on the Surf Line north of Oceanside was suspended due to a bridge washout. As a result, no Pacific Surfliner trains were running that day. However, Coaster was running a regular schedule between San Diego and Oceanside. In this video, you will see the afternoon Coaster commuter rush starting with the departure of train 645 at 12: 45 PM and going through the arrival of the second southbound coaster of the afternoon. You will even see a mix up where a switch was not set for the proper track at the depot, thus forcing southbound train 648 to stop rapidly and delaying it by 10 minutes

Good job Mike! Nice to see some older stuff from you. I remember when 2302 sounded like that. haha awful! And what's up with that weak engineer in 2303 in the last clip? Seems like a bunch of them blew random short blasts back in the day. solid vid!

Neat video, though -ahem-, like the 2011 incident, the coaster didn't go into emergency. It was just a heavy application. Emergency applications have a very distinctive instantaneous sounding blast of air.

They go south to the MTS and BNSF Freight yards south of town. The BNSF also owns tracks all the way to National City. During the middle of the day on weekdays, coaster parks 3 trains in the MTS yard.

This was At The Time that Coaster F40PHM-2C 2104 still has its Old Number Board before it went to Juniata Shops in Altoona, Pennsylvania for a Rebuild about 4 Months later.

question for you. when filming this, assuming CP Ash is the other side of the station when the coaster trains pull in loco first, where do this tracks lead to/come from?

Ye gods! I was on holiday in LA in that year and I took a quick day trip to San Diego around that time. Seems I missed all the action! Great video, thanks for showing.

Really cool video though. It's kind of surreal seeing an 8 year old video and how much is the same yet how much is different.

So, What Cause of the Mix up track switch was not set for the proper track causing The Southbound Coaster to come to a stop?
