even though I see the reason why quiet zones are being put in but at the same time the sounding of the horn is for safety. Say the gates come down and you don't see a train the horn being sounded lets you now that ones coming.
But overall all the double tracking that's going on is good because with all the traffic that goes on the system in San Diego this is good it should improve timetables and connections time to other services like Amtrack and Metrolink up in Oceanside. Plus with the extension up to UCSD for the San Diego Trolley Bule Line hopefully, will take traffic off of Hwy 5. But what I'm wondering is the tunnel that's possibly going to go through Del Mar and where that is going to put it. I say that because of the photo-taking moments of when the Fair comes into Del Mar and the train pictures you can take with the fair in the background will be missed if they bypass the ground with then tunnel.

Another great episode of Train Talk and is in fact the 20th episode and very interesting too! I was a little bit confused with the Carlsbad station project but it-s very interesting and the track improvements I bet will decrease train traffic and increase speed in the future! But why is Cardiff and Oceanside starting to become quiet zones I hate quiet zones. I mean don-t people know about train horns being musical and nice. But still great video! --: ) +CoasterFan2105

The Poinsettia Station project reminds me of a town called Quantico near me that has a VRE and Amtrak station where at grade crossing is not allowed. That is because of high-speed trains passing on the opposite track. According to -Ride, - the VRE magazine, they are also trying to accommodate for high-speed trains by making a pedestrian bridge, like the one in Woodbridge, Virginia. Also, nice video! I certainly enjoyed it!

Quiet zones are DUMB. Death = quiet zones. People can't even act right with trains honking at them, so it's only going to be worse without.
An important thing that would save lives is to have the gates at the railroad crossings go down even 10 seconds more before a train actually comes. People risk their lives with trains all the time because they can't wait, and are always late going to where they are going.

I love these improvement projects, but I sincerely think that quiet zones are the single worst ideas in transportation history. We have enough accidents as it is even with horns/whistles being sounded. Now, you want to take away the engineer's best safety device? There'll be a huge accident because of that. Mark my words.

Nice work Mike! Good narration and info and the comparing of shots after work was a nice touch. I enjoyed my time in San Diego, rode the light rail a lot and of course went to Le Mesa model railroad in Balboa Park. Thanks for the video.
Cheers Gregg.

in two decades time:
Geology teacher: there are two high speed corridors; the Northeast Corridor or NEC and the Southwest Corridor or SWC.
Me: There is only one the NEC which has the Acela. By the Way NO HIGH SPEED ROUTES ACROSS THE USA!

I think it'd be a good idea to build another sprinter along the 76 from the 5 to the 15. It's always mobbed with commuters from riverside. Also they should upgrade the 76 into an actual freeway and take away the long traffic lights.

It sure does make me sad to see Chesterfield Drive become a QZ. the current speed limits through that crossing are 70 Northbound and 90 Southbound. It-ll be way too dangerous with twice as many trains going through there without horns.
