You're speaking out of line because you don't know the facts fully. First of all, ridesharing companies were drafting taxidrivers, or people whom they knew depended on driving for their livelihood. The taxis started dropping their rates, and the rideshare companies followed. The rates have dropped down so low it is barely a reimbursement. To cover themselves, the ridesharing companies now have made it a popular opinion that it is only a side gig, when in fact it never started that way. Some of us got locked into it that way and have been doing it that long. Low skill? Rethink that one The fact that some of us know the streets and the vehicle code better than most other drivers and the fact that the third cause of death is vehicular accidents -- makes it a wonderful miracle when we can get you to your destination. Phil, I have been following you for such a long time and am truly disappointed that you are running your mouth on something you totally don't know anything about. Please retract your statements.

My beef Uber is they outsourced to India for their customer service and they wouldnt let me drive anymore after they looked at my driving record. I drove over 900 people with them. The tickets I got while driving for them were dumb tickets like unloading passengers in non unloading zone and 5 over the speed limit. I was involved in 3 accidents. One was obviously the chicks fault and 2 I shouldve took it to court but didnt. One of those was a guy hit me in the back in the fast lane and the officer said it was my fault because I didnt give him enough time to stop. Such BS officer wasnt there. I merged over and everyone stopped in front of me in the fast lane, the guy in front of me swerved to avoid collision, I stopped and the guy hits me in the back and somehow its my fault. Then they send me a bill to fix his Prius. I was so mad. So those things are why Uber and Lyft wont let me drive for them. So Im very mad. There is no gratefulness or loyalty I was just a number to them.

If you want hourly pay as an uber driver, then you either shouldnt be an uber driver, or uber drivers should stop getting ANYTHING from their fares and only make their hourly. You cant have your cake and eat it too. Uber/Ridesharing was never intended to be a full time job. It was meant to be a Hey I'm going where you are, pay me and Ill take you too type of deal. Then it expanded into We're better than cabs and the drivers get the fare using their own car etc. The demands shown are ridiculous. The moment you show the driver the destination, they suddenly dont want short trips (The exact issue almost every city in the world has with the traditional taxi/cab system) and we are back at square one. Shame on you uber drivers, this is nonsense. This is meant to be extra earnings, not sole earnings.

Uber is a version of modern servitude. Every service that I know in Chicago (Uber, Lyft, Waag, Instacart, Postmates) are almost all done by immigrant workers trying to make a hussle. That's awesome. Maybe they can't get a reputable job because they're not full citizens yet. That doesn't mean they should be paid less. They all stand in for a service that I don't want to pay, ie have my own car. I'd rather pay a bunch of money once a month to go to the airport than have my own vehicle. These people are incredibly hardworking and they deserve the extra cash; just because they're doing it as a side job doesn't mean they don't have another job on top of that, which they probably do. I know people who do ALL of them - Waag, Lyft, Uber, and Postmates.

rich and famous people donating and taking up issues is great and all, but i feel like as a whole (not assuming individuals reasons or intentions) the rich giving to charity thing is a bit of a scam, you get a huge tax write-off, you get tons of public good-will, and because of that you make it less likely to be on the receiving end of investigations and regulatory oversight. Worst of all is that in most cases the donations is such a minuscule amount of their net worth. we'd be far better off as a whole actually taxing those with fortunes and putting that money to use for everyone than giving praise for charity donations that in most cases is a far smaller amount of money, given to whatever cause they personally like.

I live just a few miles south of where the Colorado shooting took place. Its so heartbreaking. Just a few weeks ago we had another school shooting threat from a young lady infatuated with Columbine who became a danger close to the 20 year anniversary. Its insane that this is the world we live in. Unfortunately I didnt know Castillo but I have some friends who were close to him who all will say what an amazing kid he was, as if his actions Tuesday didnt say enough. The same goes for the other students who risked their lives to save their classmates. It hurts so much more also being a senior and knowing he was only 3 days from graduation. He had such an incredible future ahead of him. His memory wont be forgotten.

While I think it is messed up for Uber to start paying less for the same amount of work, I do agree that they aren't your normal job. I wouldn't expect a whole lot of benefits from what is effectively a paid volunteer position. You signed on knowing that, they've been open about their formula from the beginning. They're not a taxi service with a hired, trained and stable workforce, even if they look like one. They should pay their drivers fairly, and increase to match inflation or expenses in the area, but thats it, and only because of the nature of the business. That could be a slippery slope of what if every industry opted to work like this but for now, I think theres a reason behind that design

Hey Phil and crew. double edge sword comes to mind. As I believe celebrities and politics are a good combo when its a focused issues; like that of Kim K on prison reform, Kuchar on ending world slavery, Stiller on Syrian refugees, DiCaprio and the environment, eg overall focused activism. However, when it comes to celebrity mouthpieces for presidential candidates like that in 2016 and Hillary Clinton for example; thats when I think things go extremely sideways; and its as though celebrity power is being used just for their fame and not with a goal or intended focus on an issue, but just to sell a general product in the case of the President of United States.

If Uber drivers have in fact had their earnings cut from what they were making to now, then I get the issue. but people just complaining about not getting benefits or the big bucks for a job that is meant to be a filler job. what I have to say to them is get another job. Or if being a driver is your dream, work for an established taxi company or become a limo/town car driver. I am tired of people in lower skilled jobs complaining. work your way up the ladder, building your skills and your resume like everyone else
