Music Festival Charges Whites Double, Hero Dr. Mike, & USWNT Equal Pay Debate (Its Complicated) TheSparkyWriter: Okay I understand wanting to help people afford tickets that they usually cant afford, but isnt it discriminatory to assume that just because a person is black, they automatically cant pay full price? Similarly, that white person might be from the exact street as a black person getting the discount; you cant know how everyone lives based on their race. I mean, who doesnt love a discount, but youre just taking one look at two people and based on skin color, youre deciding what they pay? Wouldnt, idk, zip code maybe key event organizer people in to how much that person is potentially worth? Like if they live here, theyve GOT to be able to afford 20 extra bucks just to keep the bills paid. If they live over there, not a chance. This is just. idk. This feels like it couldve been handle a teensy bit better because of course someone would be all like Youre racist for charging different prices based on race. Because thats exactly what it sounds like, despite whatever intention was behind it. Gonna give the organization the benefit of the doubt and say they arent bigots and they just didnt think the whole thing through. I hate that disgusting people have attacked them for it, but still, think big decisions like that through. Nowadays, itll be all over the Internet the second the right person gets a peek. Regardless of intention, if it gets to the wrong people, theyll only use that info to fuel their own hatred. Which, in the big picture, youre fighting racism, which in all seriousness MUST BE DONE, but youve just bumbled around and made it a little worse. even if it was just an accident.

Honestly if we are wanting equal pay, then it needs to be equal performance. Meaning they need to compete against the men (just accept women into the team. There is really no issue with that when you think about it. That way they can earn the same wages. Otherwise they will have to admit they are not on the same level as men (and it is the best that get paid the most. I think in a perfect world it would be acceptable to have equal pay, but this world is not perfect. Money has to come from somewhere, and the main source of revenue is people. The more people you attract, the more tickets you sell. The more people to attract, the more you can charge for advertisements. The more people you attract, the more you can charge for broadcasting rights. Women just dont attract the numbers. They get paid accordingly. You can see the reason why in everything that happens involving competitive things. People want to watch the best. In areas that women are the best, women get the views. Men tend to dominate competitive sports due to physical advantages. If the fans want the women to earn more, then the ticket prices need to go up. Look at some of the insane ticket prices for Premier League clubs. 200 pounds for some games. 2000 for season tickets. 60000 capacity stadiums. You are looking at over a million per game. Then you have advertising. Broadcasting rights. Investments into clubs. The market creates itself. There is a reason why E-sports has become a massive market all of a sudden. People like playing and watching games. People like watching the best so they can learn and see insane plays.

3: 35 youth subjected to racist comments on our Instagram page you mean like your straight up racist pricing policy? Discrimination based on skin color is racism, it doesn't matter what skin color that person is. The biggest problem I see with racism today are these sort of its for a good cause sort of arguments that somehow racism is okay because it is pro minority. I am white, I grew up on food stamps and government assistance programs. My family did not have money. Hell, my grandmother was born in, and spent her childhood in an overcrowded log cabin. She wore dresses made from repurposed flour bags until she graduated highschool. Being white isn't a free pass in life, for those of us that grew up poor and disadvantaged, these kind of policies that claim to be intended to help the poor and disadvantaged, but only if we are the right skin color, are a slap in the face. If you truly want to help a group of people, skin color is not a metric to go by. If you really want to help people you look at their circumstances, their opportunities, and their potential, and tailor your help for that specific individual. Skin color should not even be a factor, if it is for you, than you are by definition, a racist.

Womans sports or sports in general isnt something i follow very closely so if im wrong about something plz correct me. I understand the American womens football team generated more money for viewer ship ect, during the world cup, but do they generate higher earnings with club football in America because that is where most of mens footballers are getting their money from. Im gunna go out on a limb here and say no. So then the conversation gets far more complicated as just because you generate more viewership for you specific country during the world cup does that mean you should be paid more if you win? The world cup is obviosuly international and it depends on not just your country but the entire world, and i am very positive that mens football (internationally) generates a staggeringly higher amount than womans. By all means, if they are bringing more money in to the Sport then men they should get paid the same, if not more. The answer isnt woman should get paid the same regarless, its whoever is bringing more money into the sport AS A WHOLE (womans club, womans world cup ect) should get paid what they bring in. its a complicated argument with a simple solution its just hard to accept.

The pay issue in regards to the USWNT is not complicated at all. Mens games receive more views overall than womens games, and as such advertisers pay more to have their products viewed by more people. Views in the US alone are irrelevant because the sport itself is essentially irrelevant in the US. So even if the ratings for the USWNT games are higher in the US, they'd be significantly lower in other countries bc they're not their national team. Simply, they sale ads to the highest bidders and the athletes get a cut based on that amount. Their overall cut is smaller because the overhead of putting on the tournament is roughly the same, but the amount of money produced from the tournament is a fraction that of the men's due to ad revenue and ticket sales. So, despite all other things being equal, the women produce less money and as such get paid less. It's really not complicated at all. They want to get paid the same amount? Start playing the game in an equally entertaining way.

Regarding pay in entertainment (sports, it is as it is in most other places. You should get rewards relatable to the revenue you bring in and in relation to how easy you are to replace. No matter gender or race or whatever other excuses people tend to blame it on. But you have to show it of before the rewards come. So winning one world championship is impressive and should have given a bonus no doubt. But consistency is also a factor. So when you continue to deliver, reward should follow. If not, achieve somewhere else. Womens soccer championships are however, on a world level very new, and low rated, in comparison to the mens version. So in a broad sense, it makes sense that women soccer players receive a lower payout. This will however, probably change as womens soccer grows. But I doubt it ever will bring in the revenue that mens soccer does. Thus, the general level of reward will be comparably lower.

At the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts) anyone living in Wayne County can show the ticket stand their Driver's License and walk in for free. AfroFuture fest could've done the exact same thing (or just charge residents the cheaper fare) if they want to make sure community members show up and aren't shafted by scalpers. I have a hard time believing the organizers of this event, if they're from the Detroit area, were unaware of this option, leading me to believe this is another case of disproportionate affirmative action. Also, would they charge Arab residents, who make up a significant minority population in Detroit, or Asians or Hispanics the cheaper fare? Since they talked about how they're performing in a historically black neighborhood, I wonder if even the term People of Color is exclusive to just African Americans.

Men's soccer team gets paid more than women's soccer team is wrong. First of don't compare them based on skill. They lost against under-15 boys team 5-2 I think. So I apologize but if under-15 boys can won that championship(insert anything you want here. And another thing correct me if I'm wrong but professional athletes gets paid based on their skills, stats and their popularity. Also popularity of the sport does effect their earnings. If you want a equal pay based on your skills, well then win or tie against male soccer team then we'll talk. The thing that gets me teams gets paid by certain % and women's team already getting paid more than men. They paid more for earning less and no one even knows or likes them and the only thing I know is one of them did insult national anthem, is a millionaire and still talks sht.

Serious, this is just straight up racism. How is this any different from putting signs up that say no colored people allowed. Now it's everyone's allowed, but you still gotta pay a different price if your skin color is this. I don't think people like Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther king would be like 'this is exactly what we imagined when we were literally dying for segregation to stop'. It feels like every time we make progress, there's a few idiots who think they are sooooooo woke that they take us 10 steps back. I don't care what side your on, you can't stop racism by trying to gain the upper hand with more racism. If that makes sense. I don't know anything about organizing events but I''m sure there is a way where to provide accessibility and affordability without being so blatantly racist.

I could care less about the Detroit thing, it's been addressed. But woman deserve the same pay as men? The woman's soccer team earned more than the men when you look at the actual numbers. The women took 13% of revenues driven through their game. Men take 7-9%. You want more money, generate more hype. Don't lose to 14 year old kids. Here's a thought. Try to beat the men's team. The USA men's and women's teams should play a friendly game. When the women lose, they can't complain. They already get a higher percentage, and the wsj statistics omitted many, many key data points for the sake of a narrative.
