Mrs. Hill should hold her ground and her seat until legally obligated to step down. Her stepping down is giving her very shitty ex-husband a victory he doesn't deserve. I laugh at the idea of a double standard on this issue as it would just as rocky for any male put in this position. The topic even coming up in this context is a reach by a female to tip the scales from fair to woman exclusionary at best. It really serves as a sad sign for the senator that made the statement, as it comes across as an old school political tactic, not an actual concern for a fellow representative being falsely accused and judged in the court of public opinion. I do understand Mrs. Hill is making a difficult decision that is very personal and respect that she would rather be sure the community she serves is not negatively affected by the time and energy this fight will require from her. I pry for her victory.

It is NOT revenge porn. Revenge porn is when someone else without your permission posts pictures of you only for the public to see (most often when this is done to hurt you. She Put them on a public site herself thus consenting to hem being seen only by the public. Also most of the talk and what people are caring about is not the naked pictures but of what she is doing in them and what they are proof of what she is did. Ie smoking pot before it was legal in her state. Having a relationship that if she had been a man would be easily seen as inappropriate (she was the women's boss. Hell by today's standards if she had been a man the very people defending her would call it rape being she can't consent because he is an a position of power over her. And then after becoming a congress person still paying her lover with campaign/taxpayer money even though said lover doesn't work for her anymore.

I will just say, for there to be a double standard there needs to be a standard in the first place. When was there a male rep/senator that had nude photos posted with him and either a female or male STAFFER naked? Please let me know if you find it. But until then this needs to be treated as a single issue. I don't care if a politician has nude photos of them with their significant other particularly. That is just their life and choices. But this is a story of someone in a position of power having inappropriate relations with a subordinate. If you read the leaked texts the younger staffer is clearly devastated by the outcome of the relationship.

For Facebook, Im glad they dont want to get into fact checking. Who says there wont be bias there? Do you honestly trust Facebook to do that correctly? I dont. People need to take the initiative and do their own fact checking instead of believing everything they hear. And I dont see why athletes should be compensated more. They are allowed into a school based off that talent and have their academics paid for, free publicity, good healthcare, and so much promo gear. School is about education and these people get to skip that qualifying line. This coming from a college student who is on the ground with student athletes.

Philip DeFranco, you didn't do nearly enough or thorough research into the Katie Hill story. Her photos were apparently on an adult swingers site years ago AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. You also have people like Nancy Pelosi saying she did the right thing, but you fail to mention anything about Illhan Omar's affairs and where the double standard is there. Katie Hill resigning is doing the right thing but Illhan Omar gets to get away with it? Why because she's part of the squad? Also, AOC tweets out inaccurate and dubious claims all the time and gets away with it, how come no one was calling her out on this?

Double standards are not Highlander. You can have double standards in many different ways on a single issue. I think if it was a male senator who had had a relationship with a staffer as their wife was trying to manipulate them it would be a lot more of a focus on how he then manipulated the staffer into a relationship. Because it is a female senator in a similar situation the focus is on her leaked images as a way to show her lack of judgment. You can have double standards in many ways. I think in this case the double standard against the female senator is more damaging to their future senatorial career.

It only got that bad for Hill when she played the victim. If she instead said I'm very good at brushing hair and I'm not ashamed of that. And then say that she intends to deal with the private matters that was attempted to be used as a smear but meanwhile will continue moving forward serving professionally and focused. She said something along those lines there would be a lot more respect for her but hearing that she has an abusive husband and is defeated by a photo, allows everyone to say well you shouldn't take the photos in the first place excetera excetera.

Even though I agree with the sentiment of removing false information, I don't think that Facebook has a right to silence these people. I DO believe there should be a way to more easily distinguish between fact and fiction. We all need to chose who we listen to and chose wisely based on proven facts not based on the story we want to hear. Maybe people get involved in these smaller arguments because they feel they can make a change. It feels like everyday people are giving up hope on solving the bigger issues when in reality we are the ones who can solve them.

Concerning the Hill story, my background (i. e. female, european, middle class) and education (university degree in behaviour) tells me both double standards are likely correct. Can you imagine Trump - or any other male in a position of power - having nudes leaked? What does the difference in your initial reaction tell you? But at the same time. powerful females don't have the same social #threat that powerful males do, even in societies with equality on the agenda. Our subconscious just isn't ready to board that train.
