I live in Miami and it s literally not bad here at all. All the numbers are pretty much fake lol. I have friends and friends of friends that are nurses and they said hospitals are normal. Everyone here wears masks and follOws protocol. I haven t been anywhere where they haven t. I have a bunch of friends that went to register to get tested and didn t want to wait and still received calls about being positive. (FYI a lot of people here are getting tested because of the spike being seen. And they never got tested. I call bs. I used to work helping kids pass classes a couple years back (because Miami does have a lot of disparity) and kids would tell me that they depended on school for a plethora of things that they couldn t or didn t have at their disposal at home. There are over 70, 000 homeless kids in Florida who probably depend on school. There was also a law that enacted that only 25 kids in a class room for high school and 18-22 kids for lower grades. So I m not sure where there would be over crowding in a class. I hate how people just believe anything they see or hear and since they don t live there they take it at face value. I know that many other people here would agree with me on that.

I work at a charter school in Tx so I'm definitely interested in what public schools are doing to address health concerns. I know the school I work for appears to have a pretty good handle on things. Parents can chose virtual or in class. Kids are spread out through the whole school. they have closets, storage rooms, portable classrooms etc they are using every usable sq foot to distance children from each other. Teachers and children are segmented into groups so one positive test only shuts down that class not the whole school, and every student gets a laptop and a mobile hotspot for virtual learning. Even in class teacher use the technology over paper handouts etc.
I'm not sure if opening is a good or bad idea but how long can we all live in a constant state of fear? I think most parents and kids in my area are ready for school to start. I do think it's important for schools to have a plan and a backup plan. If shit gets shut down again then schools should have a plan for that.

I m in high school and live in Florida. I m really angry at the education mandate of five days a week; my district was considering a hybrid model, which would have been the most ideal, and had to scrap it. The online learning situation in fourth quarter was terrible and not one of peers that I ve talked to said they learned anything significant or felt as if they were getting even close to the same level of education as in person school. Although I do not support the state shutting back down for economic reasons I believe that sending kids to school five days a week is going to be a big mistake. I attend a public school for high school but attended a private school for lower and middle; I m wishing badly I could return to that private school, but my family can t afford it. The education for both in person and online in the private sector was light years better than the public, according to the information I ve gathered from my old friends there.

I'm not an american and come from a country where the death penalty was abolished a long time ago
I've always been against the death penalty for several reasons
there is the possibility of error
innocent people have been executed and it is such a shame and waste of life a tragedy which can never be made right
and even if a person is proven to be guilty without a doubt there is the issue on how to execute them
and someone has to execute them as well
it is their job to kill someone which is troublesome by itself
I don't want to impose this burden on someone
you need a judge who sentences them to death
noone should have the power to do so
I understand why people want to execute mass murders and child rapists
they don't deserve to life but at the same time we as a society have a moral obligation
we condemn murder so we should not become murderers ourselves in order to right a wrong

During the sentencing of Daniel lewis lee the mother of Nancy Mueller, Earlene Branch Peterson, pleaded for clemency on behalf of Lee. She stated, I can t see how executing Daniel Lee will honor my daughter in any way. In fact, it s kinda like it dirties her name. Because she wouldn t want it and I don t want it.
Source; wikipedia
Putting aside the efficacy of the death sentence, personally i think that if the victim/victim's family members would rather not have the death sentence handed down as they believe it would bring further harm to the family and/or dirty the name of the victims/family that they should have the ability to stop a death sentance from being handed down. Don't get me wrong, other than that the family should not have any more legal authority over sentencing than they do now. But i believe with this one matter it is only right to listen to the wishes of a murder victims family

I can t help but agree with reopening schools like Americans already have a terrible education and my poor nephew just missed out on a large chunk of his kindergarten year and he has no way of doing online schooling and his mother is to born in 1996 to be able to educate him at home I m worried about him cause this stunting of his education is only going to cause trouble my biggest regret in my life is butchering my education I would hate for that to happen to him except in this case he wouldn t have a choice I think since were all taking billions from the police right now we should at least use some of that money to bring on new teachers so we can shrink class sizes turn a 30 kid class into a 15 or even 10 kid class if we can I know that s a lot but I m really concerned cause I love that kid and I want the best for him and schooling is necessary for that especially at this point in his life

as someone that's been wrongfully prosecuted convicted and paid my debt to society for a crime I never committed I am completely against the death penalty.
in theory there are people that do things that are heinous enough to Warrant it but I do not carry even a shred of confidence that the federal or state government law enforcement and Judiciary are competent enough to make the determination of guilt with the pinpoint accuracy required without a wide margin of error and when you're talking about capital punishment even one innocent human beings life being ended by the state is unacceptable
I'm not comfortable with the tax dollars I contribute to being used to end the life of another human being without one hundred percent certainty they indeed are the ones that committed the heinous act that requires such a punishment

Students have been back at school since late April here in Darwin, NT Australia. there s a few rules like hand washing stations & hand sanny are around the schools and at the door of each classroom, no sharing of food and only reusable water bottles are allowed, no outside visitors or parents/guardians are allowed on school grounds and if you have cold/flu symptoms you must stay home, schools are cleaned daily and face masks aren t required at this time as we haven t had any community transmissions yet, so we ve been really lucky and thankful that our kids are at school, going on camps, doing their exams, sporting/swimming events and having their end of year formals in Oct/Nov.
So yay us in the Northern Territory for playing by the rules because now we also get to go to the pub, water parks, restaurants, markets and cinemas.

I work as a special needs therapist in schools. I'm required to work in very close proximity, including physical contact for redirection, with kids aged 3-10. It's common for these kids to bite, spit, and scratch, so saliva and blood exchange are a constant risk. PPEs are ripped off of therapists right away with some individuals. Masks and social distancing are not feasible with this population of students. Now imagine opening schools and being unprotected for 6-8 hours a day. I'm tired of parents treating schools and teachers like babysitters. An educator isn't your childcare provider. I'm tired of local officials making policy on things they don't know anything about, or even worse know but don't care.

I m applying to dental school (as in to be a doctor of dental surgery, DDS, not a hygienist) right now and it s incredibly difficult dealing with all the changes. I need to take my DAT, which is the dental version of the MCAT. From test center closures from March everyone s test dates got pushed back and cancelled. Rescheduling has been a nightmare and this is the tale for most students applying to pre-health doctoral programs right now. Some schools are beginning to waive the DAT and MCAT such as UCLA and USCF. But at the end of the day, I m glad I ve completed the minimum education required by the government because damn that seems like a shit show right now.
