Nice video--and appreciate you providing the PCB files etc. I actually built it---A couple of observations---first--I always use a heatsink on the 78xx series---and the PCB doesn't have provisions for one--Second--the files are from Altium--which are hard to convert and alter if you use a different PCB design platform. I ultimately just used the stock file you provided and sacrificed one of the caps---which didn't seem to affect noise off battery supply--Finally--I used this to power an Arduino--and thus used a 7809 because Arduino has its own VREG and requires 7-12 volts for accurate voltage stability--also--by using a 9v 78xx--you dissipate the heat across two Regs--3 volts (assuming 12v supply)on this board/reg, and another 4v across Arduino reg. If you run this with a 12v supply at 1 amp--you will find it shuts down quickly due to thermal protection. I mean these comments constructively and always appreciate you videos!

Making custom PCBs has changed so much since when I was younger.
I remember being 12 years old and I had to hand draw the tracks with an etch resist pen, onto copper clad board.
Then I would etch the copper, using a spare plastic takeaway tub, filled with ferric chloride.
Finally, I'd drill the PCB with a hand operated drill and a. 8mm bit. Then I would use engine de-greasant to remove the remaining etch resist pen ink from the copper tracks.
Then the board was ready for soldering.
I didn't have the luxury of the green solder mask, or the professional white text.
It was often difficult, because I had to mentally reverse the circuit, as I was drawing the copper track layout on the bottom side of the board. Often times, I'd get it wrong.

I'm pretty sure I shorted the whole thing by either having the tin short circuit the whole thing, or I reversed the inputs. Anyways, I'm 27 now, have a degree in physics and a profession. I think this will be my first full fledged personal electronics project.

It is wise to protect the voltage regulator against larger voltages at its output than its input by another protecting diode. This case can happen, if you switch off the input voltage and you have higher capacity electrolytics in your downstream circuit. Furthermore it is necessary to take care for input voltage and supply current in order not to exceed a power loss of more than 1 W if the voltage regulator is operated without heat sink.

I hope any professional or technician can tell me: why on blueprints or schematic phase or VCC is always connecting visually correct but when negative is connected, it shows to a one line only of negative or neutral but in PCB looks with more sense, a charge getaway into a + and continues on a - but it goes to a + of the next component, not sure if it is clear

Great videos! Especially for an electronics newbie like me. I was wondering if you could do a video on powering a ESP32 circuit board with USB. I have a breadboard module that will take USB or 9V but I want to buy the individual components so it is integrated on my circuit board. I feel like it is basically this circuit.

Very cool, I'm looking for a setup to charge as much as possible devices from a car battery. So far I haven't found anything that has a range going both under 12v (to charge a trimmer for example) and above 12v (to charge a laptop. I think it would not be rocket science but my electrical knowledge is very limited.

bro can you make video for variable power supply that can adjust max 20 amps to 0-12 volt i have make one but it get hot when i charge leade asid battery so you are the only one ho can do it clearly and perffcty

For maximum current I would give more board footprint to allow for a decent BW style heatsink on the regulator. Before 2000, the now defuct Maplin Electronics supplied boards with the mentioned BW style heatsink.

I need to cut 12v dc down to 5v dc to power a motor but the motor is after a dpdt relay so the polarity will be switching, would a buck regulator work or are they polarised are there any other options?

I'm sorry, but does anyone know the purpose of the 10uf capacitor on the output side of the regulator? I understand that the 0. 1uf's are for smoothing the signal, but can't understand the 10uf

Should have mentioned that the voltage regulator is a linear type. Which is not good for power consumption. Recommendation is a buck converter.

why was the reading on USB tester 4. 6 V and not exactly 5. 0 V? isn't the whole point of a regulator to supply a fixed amount (5 V) voltage?
