The Napoleonic Wars (1803 - 1815) brought upheaval and destruction to Europe on an unprecedented scale. This is the story of the first half of those wars, when Napoleon Bonaparte, self-crowned Emperor of the French, ruled supreme on the battlefield and international stage - the greatest man of his age. But in the midst of victory, the seeds of his eventual downfall were sown. This video is a compilation of the first six episodes of Epic History TV's Napoleonic Wars series

Georges Clemenceau (1841 - 1929): War is a series of catastrophes that results in a victory.
Just another military bigot that put the world through genocidal slaughter.
Thomas Mann (1875 - 1955): War is a cowardly escape from the problems of peace.
GFW Hegel, The Philosophy of History, What experience and history teaches us is that people and governments have never learned anything from history, or acted on principles deduced from it.
Saladin: I warn you against shedding blood, indulging in it and making a habit of it, for blood never sleeps.

Britannic and then American propaganda loves to make fun of how Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo. Have they even seen that man's history? Did they forget that defeating that guy required basically all of Europe?
Though i'm not sure it's any better of the french-monachist/imperialist propaganda that tell a tale of a glorious emperor who dominated the world and pulled France out of the pits of the bloody revolutions up to the the top world powers again.

For those who love this period of histroy I'd highly recommend reading The Sharpe book Series by Bernard Cornwell. It's also a tv series starring Sean Bean. Yes that Sean Bean. Also let's all remember: Napoleon and the French Revolution won at the end of the day. Monarchies are no longer really around and nobles are not as powerful as they used to be pre 1790.

I love this video, but why do you sometimes refer to non-monarchs by their first name and sometimes by their last name? You call Karl Mack von Leiberich Mack, but Mikhail Kutuzov is referred to as Kutuzov. That makes little sense. Either call them both by their last name or both by their first name.

I don't know why Habsburg defend their capital in 1683 why they didn't fought in open battle with ottoman empire like they done with franch army? The habsbirg first exosted the ottoman army than they fought with the ottoman army at kolengrad but why they didn't use same tactic against the franch?

Sensation time and effort on so many levels to put this together. Fascinating, informative while bringing to life the incredible effort, toil and savagery required for war during that and following times. Unimaginably bravery when you think about it.

It's Napoleonic Night! The next 5 hours of The Master at work. Have seen all these vids multiple times, but that hasn't stopped me from watching them again. Have pressed the like button a long time ago, so All Hail the Algorithm!

Very kindly put: You might want to study what a Sociopath (Napoleon Bonaparte) is, and how these think and feel and say and do, according to their nature.
Hint: Total contempt for others' life, and proud of that ability.

Can I just say that I have watched this documentary 100 times over and I will watch it 100 times again. I doubt I will ever get sick of it nor wishing that I would. What a masterpiece of historical content this truly is.

The corps system you mentioned is very similar to Caesar's centuries. Each century carried its own supplies on mules, and included non combatants, etc. Each century was supposed to be self-sufficient.

When referring to military standards or eagles captured, what is it that you mean? Are these banners or golden eagles on staffs in the manner Roman legions carried into battle? Thank you.

Everytime I see videos about Napoleon, I often get the urge to play Total War: Napoleon and try to replicate as much as I can, albeit hard, the historical events and battles that occurred.

Interesting that we by WE I literally mean everyone knows Napoleon not by his last name but most dominantly by his first name. I cant think of anyone else where thats the case.

Bernadotte was perhaps the most annoying marshal to Napoleon. Always messing up and disobeying commands and finally declaring war on Napoleon as the monarch of Sweden.

I love how the Brits treat any retreat that's not a complete diaster, as a great victory. And I'm not trying to be a wise ass, seems like a good way to view such things.

Can you guys do a video on the rise and fall of the Roman Empire? Granted, itll be really long but it would be very educational and interesting. Please and thanks.
