Ten Minute English and British History #15 - The Hundred Years\' War Tamas: History as told by the English. Notice how there is zero mention of the Scottish military contribution. Of how Scottish armies were on various occasions the main army supporting France's existence. Or of when England was at it's most dominant it was Scottish forces that rallied the French. At the Battle of Bauge the Scots erased all advantage of the English victory at Agincourt. At other battles they fought to the end turning English victories into Phyrric ones. Joan of Arc was largely supported by the Scots and Scottish troops ensured the crowning of the Dauphin.
It is simply dishonest to talk about the 100 years War and ignore the very reason the English saw defeat and retreat when they were so close to final victory.

People forget most of the English soldiers were actually locally recruited Frenchmen or Spanish mercenaries. But still they had more troops from even The low countries than England. And even France had a few Briton soldiers.
This wasn't a England vs French civilization cultural ethnic war. It's a political war of cause to which is which King do you support. The Normans considered themselves French with barely minor Scandinavian ancestry. Infact most Normans were locals anyway.

Actually, I enjoyed the episode very much.
Informative, succinct and very funny.
If I may? :
The 'Dauphine', was a popular French compact automobile of the nineteen fifties, the 'Dauphin', being the - male - heir to the French throne.
(They're pronounced a bit differently)
Still funny though, although unintentional.

Next episode is 'The Wars of the Roses' and was frankly a pain to write. For those wondering, I've been unwell for the past couple of weeks and whilst I've been fine in terms of ability to write and animate, my voice was knackered and so I couldn't record.
Thanks for your patience with it all.

All of a sudden I realized why the crusaders failed in XIV-XV centuries most of them were of French and English decent and they were busy fighting each other and dying of plague, thus diminishing support to European claims in Holy land that led to fall of Constantinople

What a bunch of dorks. To this day, none of them can pay for their financed wars or new fleet additions. Funny how a 100 year war could be delayed historically. Its like modern day war streaming for online audiences and video game purchases.

Yay! The black death! Millions of normal healty people caught a small case of the deaths.
Majority rules! uh-oh. Majority saw it's numbers cut in half. not so majority anymore lol
History is written by the virusses.

That would have been much easier to understand, therefore more interesting, if you had spoken slower and given us a few pauses to be able to absorb the information that had just been thrown at us. You spoke too fast.

A suggestion: don't put important content on slides while saying something else. Difficult to grasp info through two media at once.
Love your work though. The info, the tone, the animations, just spot on.

It's amazing both sides actually had great victories because of certain overpowering technologies. And such famous technology as well. The English Longbow at first and then early firearms later on.

Ive been reading lately about a figure in the war named Charles II of Navarre called the bad for his double crossing and wicked behavior. A fascinating figure but a jerk nevertheless.

The whole war took place in France which was devastated by it while England remained out of range. Despite this, France won. This just show how powerfull France was at that time

What a missed opportunity to point out the irony, of this particular John II of France, being historically dubbed Jean le Bon, meaning John the Good! xD

Even more than money, the black death didn't only kill off the immediate generation, but severely compromised the numbers present in future generations.

I really wanted them to name one of the Super Carriers HMS Black Prince, as a bit of a finger to France due to the problems we're having with them now lol

Had trouble understanding your english accent and the subtitles were misinterpreting what you said but after about 40 minutes I finished

Who was also waiting for the introduction of Joan of Arc (Jeanne dArc) throughout the first 7 minutes and 46 seconds of the video? :)
reply

I don't get it, english kings land so often on France and take a bit of their land, but why don't the french do the same in england!
