When a country disappears overnight, it often provokes a reaction. So when this happened to Austria in 1938 and it was gobbled up by Germany, how did the world react?

In 2019, EU Parliament has officially declared USSR responsible for the beginning of WWII alongside Nazi Germany.
Now, Austrian Anschluss and the general policy of pacification were being widely ignored there - and all of that was opposed by USSR, which was trying to build a pan-European security pact until they've got to realise that both Britain and France are more afraid of USSR and communism than nazis. And only then the Poland split and Molotov-Ribbentrop pact have come to life.
Let this be remembered: USSR has seen the coming nazism in Europe a mile away and tried to prevent it from happening.

Wait, I don't know if anyone will read this, specially an Austrian that is who I wanna ask this to. Back in 1938 (which I don't think you were born ofc, did Austria have a negative reaction to the German invasion and later annexation? It's just that I haven't heard much from it, but since Germans are like Austrians cousins, I thought they wouldn't be exactly thrilled but wouldn't be opposed to it much, unlike Polish or, to an extent, Czechs.
I'd like to know, thank you (specially since you guys apparently have a aquare named Mexico after their complains so I guess you were really opposed.

History records how Austria reacted to this annexation - The rape of Austria. You have never seen, nor will ever see, a happier rape victim! The spirit of the deluded fool from Braunau am Inn, is unfortunately still around. No disguising of the Nazi attitudes is successful. With regards to Mexico - we'll return you the penacho one day. It is very important to Austrian cultural values, just like the Nazis were.

This video was not only informative but hilarious. Starting with the Treaty of Versailles- Everyone and Belgium. The Swedish neutrality level had me in tears. Level 4- 'Tell my wife hello. '
reply

Well Austrians wanted it. When Germany forms the 4th Reich (under the EU) they will easily just annex all countries at once without anyone being able to do shit about it.
reply

2: 21 Is that 'Tell my wife hello' a reference to Futurama S02E06 at 19: 59 where the leader of the Neutrals says exactly this?
If so. I'm surprised I got that.

Germany: So youre saying taking others land is bad, right?
Mexico: Right.
Germany: Say hows the Aztec Empire doing these days?
Mexico: Shut up.

Should have mentioned also the war within Austria between Fascists and Nationalsocialists.
And how the Italians were supportive of the Fascists.

reply

If only He had stopped after the annexation of Czechoslovakia.
It would have been a damn fine country and the borders would have been beautiful.

Poland had one of the highest pre-war military spends in Europe. They knew that something was coming, but they didn't know from which side

Ethiopia also has a mexico square in its capital in honor of their stance against italian agression (more like a war of annhilation)
reply

Having signed a non aggression pact, and those were unbreakable.
I need an adult diaper because I just wet myself laughing.

Crazy, the paralells there are with the Crimea Annexation. No one giving a shit and here we are in a full fledged war.
reply

Every single Austrian Chancellor from 1919, bar the last two, called openly for Union with Germany. That simple really.
reply

Imagine mexico just up and declared war on Germany for doing that and sent like 100k men to go fight on ships
reply

Is it just me or does it seem like Mexico just loved to stick its head into world politics throughout the 19 hundreds
reply

another Fun Fact: Austrian Troops marched through German cities to demonstrate that its not a one-sided annexation.
reply

No, no. Germany didnt FULLY annex Austria. As the map in the beginning shows, Austria owned Cyprus at the time.
reply

Every other people being united in their own state: I sleep
Germans uniting in their own state: REAL SHIT!

reply

The Austrian people received the annexation to Germany with enthusiasm. It is too early for rewrite history.
