Why is Antarctica Divided? Documentary

video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Antarctica has been divided for the past half a century between Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Argentina and Chile. And their claims to the continent remain to this day. So why is this the case? Why is Antarctica divided and why by those countries in particular and not the United States, Russia or Japan?

Why is some of it unclaimed & how do you claim a territory? Can someone link a good video answer at least the second question?
Also, how did the lines get draw as so? Was it the part of it you got to was what you can claim as yours? Why do they come from the south pole or the center?

It's funny how you take as true the argentinian claim overlapped in the chilean territory, thinking Chile have functioning scientific bases in this territory and Argentina nope. Argentina need Chile to reach Antartica and uses the chilean navy to bring supplies to his bases.

First thing I wanted to find in these comments was an animated passionate flat earther talking down to us fools because we don't accept the fact that Antarctica is not a continent but instead is a giant ice wall guarded by the men in black

After it had become clear there's just a lot of land sitting there without European flags on it, nations became interested in it.
Lol! We can't live there, not much to do there, but by gosh, we need to stick some flags in it!

Crazy how this continent was only fully discovered a little over 200 years ago. In comparison, Columbus hit North America right before 1500 & vikings sailed to it hundreds of years before.

What about Brazil's claim to a small portion of Antarctica's territory? The Comandante Ferraz base near the South Pole, operated by the Brazilian navy, is a thing.

Can you offer any evidence that the Antarctic Treaty allows the US and the USSR to make territorial claims on the continent? The text of it certainly doesn't.

Antarctica's existence/history for some reason is the most fascinating thing to me lately, not just this video but this video certainly helps explores that.

Major world powers:
Ooh what is that? A new land? Is it claimed? No, then it's mine! If it is claimed, can I defeat who owns it? Yes, then it's mine!

reply

If the lands belong to who find it first than didn't the native of America and australia find it first so doesn't It belong to the native. Or

So which country owns the part where the Mountains of Madness are? Are the Elder Things considered citizens of that country?
reply

The picture at 1: 14 of the Nazis holding the Norwegian monarch at gunpoint is wrong. The monarch fled to Britain.

i love how Australia just owns a huge chunk of the continent but france owns a small chunk in between

There is also a treaty that is called the gateway to Antarctica that act as security to the continent
